Round 2:
Bernards blow
start but find a win over Bloods
Seniors: After
a tardy start that allowed Haileybury to skip away to a 34 pt lead St
Benards found some run to draw even late in the second qtr and it
looked like Sernards pace and fitness would run Hailybury off their
feet, but to the Bloods credit and with their better players
Brown.,Mohammed and Voss firing Hailyb kicked away again to a 32 pt
lead 15 mins into the third.
Again the boys rallied and closed the gap
to 5 pts at the last change and again Bernards looked set to swoop but
Hailybury would not yield and it was only at the 26 min mark that the
game was won after Pottsy slotted his fourth. Steve ‘Bocca’ Mitchell
was again our best along with Danny Roach, Nic Cattapan did well in his
debut game and Nick ‘Junior’ Smith did a great job on the rampant Tony
Brown in the second half.
Coach Simon Madden was pleased to get the
four points but felt the side could improve substantially. We still
have a few to come back and a number of players today drifted in and
out of the game and will improve on the run”
Senior coach
Simon Madden
Funny moment of the day: Chairman
of Selectors John Potter gets the stitch up award … he complained to
Football Director Paul Garth that a bloke taking notes on our players
was obviously a spy from Marcellin. When the alleged spy came over to
the huddle at three qtr time Pottsy pointed him out to Garthy who
immediately stormed over and politely told the bloke to “…. off”
only
to find out he was actually the VAFA scribe Tahl Lerner who was
reporting on the game. A bewildered Tahl pointed to his picture in the
VAFA footy record as evidence of his innocence after which an
apologetic Garthy allowed Tahl to stay and listen to coach Madden’s
address.
Ressies:
Like the seniors, the
Ressies could not get their run going against an obviously less fit but
determined Hailybury side. After blowing some easy goals early it was
even stevens all day and with only a 15 point lead at the last change
the boys needed to lift … and they did kicking into gear in the last 15
mins and slamming on 8 goals to storm home by 60 pts. Our best, Ben
Hogan, Sean Bergin, Jesse Manunzio, Kyle Dalmau, Steve Ianazzo, Chris
Davis
Warriors:
Another legion of
blokes
put their hand up for selection Thursday night with those training
getting the nod and the list was trimmed down to 26 for the clash with
a handy Monash Blues outfit at ‘the Pit’. With enough on the bench for
Viddo and Vass to have a decent BBQ the rotations kept coming ... in a
cliffhanger a draw! the Warrior hordes remain unconqurered but had to
settle for two points when the bell rang just before we were about to
snatch all the spoils. Our best, Jake Spinella, Mick Moloney, Chris
Gray, Matt Marion, Gary Joseph, Andrew Brebner

19 Premier:
After staying in touch up to three qtr time injuries to Danny Forde and
Jake Foulds opened the gate for our opponent St Kevins who blew the
young Bernards away in the last qtr to win by comfortably. Our best
Matt Briganti, Andrew van Meel, Alex Singleton, Josh Kassis, Jake
Bevanda, Stephen Forcone
Under
19 (2): The
boys tried hard and were in touch at orange time but were no match in
the last qtr for the solid Rupo line up going down by 29 pts. Our best,
Chris Tandy, Pat Ganwell, Nick Hughes, J. Cribbin, Liam Neal, David
Kavanagh
