Madden to assist Saints ruckman

Senior coach Simon Madden has agreed to assist St Kilda with Ruck coaching. President Mick Overman says the link to Simon will add to the strong relationships St Bernards has with higher level clubs. "The Club have developed good relationships with VFL and TAC clubs and while we have been putting more players up than we have got back in recent times it is important that we maintain those relationships and that clubs view St Bernards as having the right culture and infrastructure so they recommend us with confidence to prospective players"

Commenting at the Xmas break up Madden said ... “The role will fit in well with my Bernards coaching … when you’re out of the system for a couple of years you can lose touch with the latest developments … the game is always moving on and its good for me and the club to have that access that I can pass onto our playing group and coaches”.

President looking forward to 2008

Speaking to players and supporters at the Xmas break up President Mick Overman was looking forward to 2008 … “with the last pre Xmas training session out the way everyone can look forward to the break before 2008 kicks off in earnest with pre season training commencing on Monday 21st January at ‘the Pit’.

The club has worked hard off field to secure highly credentialed assistant coaches to provide Simon with the support he needs to focus on maximising on field performance.

“The first of the new coaching appointments Gary McAllister has already demonstrated his strong commitment to our aim of completing the best pre season ever and raised the bar in his professional approach with skin folds, heart rate monitors and measurements now par for the course.”

"The commitment of the players leadership group coordinated by new players Board rep Dutchy Holland is another positive step forward. We have an exciting bunch of young players coming through and with a strong pre season we are looking forward to many of our senior players who suffered injury last season being on the park and firing".

"We have addressed each of the areas identified in the 2007 review as requiring improvement. The last key element in our improvement plan is recruiting. We have three new committee members in Neil Loughlin, Terry Davis and Paul Kavanagh who are assisting in that area along with the establishment of player welfare. In summary, we are well placed to achieve significant improvement out of our existing list including the development of the younger players and if we can add a couple via recruiting we will be set for a big year".
