_NEWS ARCHIVE: OCTOBER 1ST - NOVEMBER 6TH

Update

The website is now officially back on line, apologies for being off air for a while but the new site now offers us a lot more than we had previously … more on that later. In the meantime an update on whats been happening over the past month.

Completed in the immediate post season:

• Player Review
• Coaching Review
• Recruiting Review

Simon Madden (Seniors) Gary Foulds (Skills) Dean Solomon (Reserves) have been reappointed for 2008. Gary McAllister has come on board as Senior Fitness coach) and we are currently talking to some prospective assistant and specialist coaches to increase our on field capability.

Coaches, players and support staff have had several pre season planning meetings so we are all set to hit the track running on our first official training night on Monday November 12.

In addition to player retention, recruiting is a priority at this time of the year and is an area of key focus.

In the meantime Wheels and Rob Lawrance again ran a very successful Mega Swim day. Congrats to all the players involved and of course the boys survived the footy trip to Adelaide where naturally there is nothing to report.

The annual General Meeting will be held on the 12th Nov at the clubrooms commencing 8 pm.

Most of the boys will be at the Cox Plate and Cup carnival over the next two weeks before commencing our assault on a big pre season campaign.

Captain D Mac takes St Bernards B&F
Damien McLaughlin was elated to win his first Best and Fairest award at St Bernards Presentation night held last Friday. In front of a big crowd an emotional D Mac spoke of his delight in winning the coveted award … “I am honoured to be listed among some of the champions who have represented this great club and 100% committed to getting us back to the top of VAFA ranks … we had a difficult year but we will all stick together and we will bounce back hard”. In his sixth season at the club and third as captain D Mac polled 20 votes, three ahead of Chris Liberatore and David McMeekin who tied for runner up with 17 votes each.

Highlights of the night included the popular win of Captain D Mac, the well deserved best clubman award to Ian Wheeler and an upstanding tribute to club great Tubby Atkinson who sadly passed away earlier this year. Woody and Viddo take a spell

Under 19 (1) coach Greig Wood has resigned after three years at the helm of our Under 19's. After coaching the side into successive Prelim and Grand Finals and managing to get 16 players into senior football in that time Woody leaves a strong legacy. “With four growing young kids at home I will not have the time to devote that I would like but hope to remain involved in some capacity and I look forward to watching the progress of the boys that have come through in the past 2-3 years as they develop into regular senior players under Simon and Fouldsy”

Warriors coach Viddo also has a growing family and after restarting the Club 18 side last year has done a fantastic job of balancing veterans who still like a kick on Saturday with developing youngsters. Viddo almost pinched a flag to boot this year with big Luke Vassallo booting 97 goals up forward and three more in the Ressies last game to get ‘the ton' … like Woody Viddo will be around to lend support.

Simon Madden Reappointed Senior coach for 2008

The club has announced the reappointment of senior coach Simon Madden for next season. Gary Foulds will also be continuing on as development coach and the club will shortly confirm the appointment of a skills coach and fitness coach that will enable us to fast track the development of players and our overall coaching support capability.

Season review plans for long term success

At the end of the season the club undertook the most comprehensive review of all areas of performance similar to Geelong 's process last year....For details click here
