St Bernard's 1.3.9 vs. Hoppers Crossing 22.24.156
From the first quarter onwards we were under a huge amount of pressure.
We struggled in all positions on the ground against a full strength
Hoppers Crossing. We found it difficult to generate any sort of
consistent flow to our game which reduced our drive and goal scoring
opportunities. To our credit we all played out the 4 quarters to the
best of our ability. To play in Sundays’ game and be under pressure for
the entire four quarters will prove to be of future benefit to all
players and demonstrate how tough this game of football can be, it will
also demonstrate what is required by everyone to play against the top
teams and be in any way competitive.
This week we will have the benefit of some key players returning to our
team which will strengthen our group as we prepare to play Flemington
Juniors at home on Sunday. Lets stick together and make the next week
enjoyable.
Best: Taylor Bisognano, Jack Holland, Max Paoli, James Riley, Nic
Monarca. Michael Iacobaccio, John Iannello, Lachlan Jowett, Seamus
Whelan, Tony Plazanic.
Goals: Adam Bevanda 1 fantastic goal.

Good to have a win and back in finals race. But it came at a price to
lose Tom Madden early in the game. We all pulled together and got on
with the game as good teams should. We will need every player to stand
up this week and give their best if we are to play finals.
IF YOU WANT SOMETHING BAD ENOUGH YOU HAVE TO GO AND GET IT. WIN THIS
WEEK.

St. Bernards 0.1.1
lost to Hoppers Crossing 20.7.127
A very long season is drawing to an end. All year we have relied on our
very good footballers to keep us competitive against the strong A grade
teams. We then really suffer if those fellas are unavailable. And today
plenty were out.
Whilst we survived the severe outbreak of L I, we are barely coping
with its mutated form, H I. We have been devastated by new injuries. 2
broken Hands, Hips, a Heart malfunction, Head colds, and the
bloody Holidays. Losing skipper Marcus Deleur really Hurt. Marcus
recently won best player of the U 12 carnival where he
represented the WRFL. We sometimes wonder what we might lose by if he
did not play. Today we found out.
The 18 who played in really wintery conditions deserve medals. It was
not only freezing cold, but an icy wind blew in from the Werribee
pondage. Our opponents were fast and fierce, gearing up for finals.
They had some strong players. While one went for the ball, two others
would bump and shepherd. It was tough uncompromising footy. Yet we
never tossed it in. One of our boys said that he was surprised at the
score because we seemed to be in the game more than that. Quite true.
Edyn Sibbald has had a wonderful year and led the team with
distinction. He crashed through on many occasions. Josh Wallis
continued his strong form winning lots of the footy. Lachie Sullivan
must have called his dad a name or something, because he started at
full-back on the biggest kid in their team! In true style, Lachie put
in a gut-busting performance to be one of our best. Coach Damo tried
some boys in new positions. Callum O'Sullivan and Michael Sauro both
had a run in the ruck and competed really well. Matt Falvey found
himself at half back and held up several attacks by jumping into packs.
Jack Rennex was keen to get into it and played another eye-catching
game. Chris Tormey managed his third blood nose in as many weeks, but
did not let it slow him up. He reads the play really well. It's just
the one coming straight at the snoz he does not pick.
Dominic Iermano showed some flashes of his class, and again Jack
Gilmore dashed around the ground gathering heaps of kicks. The wind was
so strong that both Chris and Nick O'Bree got blown over. They also
went in hard and earned their kicks. I can recommend Nicko's hair gel.
Hair perfect when he arrived and still perfect after dashing around in
that gale. His hair was gelled so stiffly that a Hoppers kid
slashed his arm when he brushed against those impressive spikes.
Sam Santoro, Ethan Baker and Lukas Steel are improving with each
outing. Those boys are listening to Coach Damo and trying to get in for
the ball. Speaking of improving, it is wonderful to see how much Nick
Swan has come on. And the 2 as tough as old boots, Fergal Utri and Will
Isaacs, took plenty of knocks but dished out their own bumps and
tackles. Kids are great. We got smashed , and they all came off
sore and cold.... but still smiling and wondering who we
play next week. Good on 'em.
Thanks to Coach Damo, Paul Madden and the committee, Scatters, all of
the parents who help out and of course you mighty little
Snowdogs.
Best: Lachie Sullivan, Edyn Sibbald, Josh Wallis, Jack Gilmore, Jack
Rennex, Nick Swan, Chris Tormey

Our last home game for the season and what a game it was, to the boys
credit again gave everything they had. A hard fought affair had the two
teams separated by a few points at the final change. Well done boys for
not giving in! The whole game was played with the opposition team going
for our players, every one of our boys concentrated on the ball, the
opposition were hoping to “suck us in” to play the man. (They forgot
we’ve got some brains…der!!!).
We could have been further in front with the score, but unfortunately
we hit the post 3 times which gave the opposition a chance to put the
pressure back on our players. Our team was never settled with players
coming off due to trying to get every boy on the bench to have a run
with a large list, match up’s and injuries, it was not the ideal
preparation for the boys just before the season end and heading into
the finals.
It was great to see Michael Smith, Matthew Bell, Joseph Taylor, Daniel
Vella, Bailey Packham, James Kenny, Conner Denahy, and Luke Attard
contributing enormously. Well done boys. As I mentioned before the
game, we as parents should be very proud of how they have played their
football and where they have got themselves to.
With a long list of injured players today our major one was Liam
Collins, broken wrist and will be out for six weeks, I’m sure he will
come down and support his team mates over the next few weeks. Get well
soon. (Nurse Chris – can Liam still play basketball with his other
hand?)
Captains: Luke Attard and birthday boy Michael Diamandis, well done
boys!

RED'S FINISH THE SEASON UNDEFEATED!!!
For the third week in a row we came up against very windy condition's,
this week the wind went straight across the ground. It was a real
challenge for the team to actually get the ball into a scoring
position! The side worked extremly hard from the first bounce. James
Happy Gilmour was superb in defence all day and later on in the last
quarter had his chance for glory to score his first goal for the year,
as he marked about 20 metres out we were already for the happy dance?!
alas a point, neverless a great game today happy.
The team's tackling was a highlight today and all the players
contributed, special mention to Lachy C for taking down one of Hoppers
biggest players, Patrick M also laid some great tackles. Zach C
attacked the ball and provided some great run out of defence, Jordy F
had his usual hard at it game, great come back match from Lachy M with
2 first quarter goals, captain for the day Jordy Mc created space and
gave us plenty of run, Tom L showed he can play in a number of
position's well done Tommy. Henry worked his tail off and was duly
rewarded with 2 clever goals in the last quarter. Luke B is a real
dasher for us, took a Speckie and kicked a wonderful goal. Ryan Rooney
Spicer played another ripper game kicked another long bomb for a goal
in the third quarter. Aidan B once again showed why he is Mr potential,
Will and Tom Mc show tremendous improvement in each game, Jyle F is
ultra consistent and reliable, and Dylan G has had a fab year.
Our team as stated before have some fantastic players, they all play
for each other and the mateship is quite evident each week, it's been a
pleasure to coach all the players, special thanks to the parent's who
help out each week especially Rod Spicer team manager, Peter C with the
coaching, Dave leary with the running, Terry Worth for comming to all
the training and match day's, Craig Carlin for his first aid work
and Brownie, Macca, and of cousrse Cornel who have had possibly the
hardest job of umpiring during the year.
Next week there is no training on Friday night, we have the fun day at
Port Melbourne next Sunday this consits of 3 games first at
9.30, 11, and 1.30, Peter C will take over the reigns for this day.
Let's hope they have an under 11's next year!! Cheers Matt Beddoe

St Bernards vs
Hoppers Crossing
On a freezing cold windy day playing in a cow paddock, the boys started
off kicking against the wind. Hoppers attacked straight away and kept
us scoreless for the 1st quarter. Our 2nd quarter we were very flat
apart from Pat W holding up the backline stopping everything coming his
way. With some clever changes from Michael and Tony on the bench at
halftime saw a complete turn around. Great team running, shepherding,
bumping, talking and great use of the ball coming from a dead boundary
through centre half forward to score some great goals. Well done Kyle,
Will R, Domenic C, Matt D, Mitch, Ben, Luke, Adam, Zac, Jake, Joey ,
Christian and Matt S. Well done to Will Biffin for putting your body in
under the pack to recieve a free kick which eventually resulted in a
goal! Good efforts from Ryan, Angus, Hunter, Daniel, Thomas,Domenic M,
Joseph G and Joseph T.
A great team of good kids!

@ PORT COLTS (map 56K1) 9 REDS FIRST GAME 9.30
Under 9 White
Best: Connor M, Anthony P, Lachlan G, Nathan B, Nicholas D,
Joshua S
Goals: Connor 1
For our last game at home for the year we hosted a very talented
opposition and had a strong breeze to contend with blowing to the
Buckley St end. Captain Connor won the toss and didn’t hesitate for
first use of the wind. Connor set the seen for the day, leading the
boys early with strong attacking play into our forward line. We had 80%
of the play in our forward 50mt thanks to some strong work from the on
ball brigade of Nick D, Marcus and Lewis. Across the centre Lachlan G
had his best game for the year stopping many of the Williamston surges
forward. Ryan, Daniel and Liam were tackling strongly forcing the ball
free many times where our smaller running players like Darcy, Nick V,
Grant and Stephen gave the forwards many opportunities. Nathan came on
at quarter time and had immediate impact with quick kicking and
handballs to his teammates. Myles was working hard across half back
after half time and with help from Jordan and Anthony, who was like a
ball magnet, set up our first goal. Captain Connor capped off a
sterling day with a sensational goal from a tight angle. Lachlan S,
Domenic, Oliver and Bradley all played excellent last quarters in a
fine finish to the traditional home and away season.
