U16D St Bernard’s 9.8.60 lost Williamstown Juniors 10.10.70
Goals: Adrian Dixon 2 Charles Connelly Matthew Corso James De Leur Luke Larsen Liam McIntyre Zaron Smith Jake Van Meel
Best: Luke Larsen Liam Jilla Alexander Horton Michael Hughes Patrick Grech Marcus Giansiracusa
A great game of football was played at Williamstown on Sunday with two quality sides having a real crack. The game itself was really a dead rubber as Willy could not lose top spot & we could not go any higher then third.
Luke Larsen once again was a real stand out, as were the skills of silky Jilla. Patrick Grech played a solid game on the wing & Marcus Gianciracusa & Michael Hughes were solid contributors. Jake Van Meel sneaked in for a couple of good goals.
The game could have been won but was lost due our sloppy disposal & turnovers (dropped marks, lack of talk, not conceding a behind, not spoiling properly & not keeping eyes on the ball). Come on fellas we have two games left & if we are prepared to work harder over the next four weeks we can be a threat come finals time
This week be at ground 1pm for 2-05 kick-off
Don’t forget BBQ after game on Sunday all welcome

U14A St Bernard’s  5.17.47 vs. Point Cook 9.6.60
It was a disappointing result in a game in which we had more than our share of the play. Our kicking for goal let us down again and prevented us from applying maximum scoreboard pressure on the opposition, this allowed Point Cook who kicked straight to stay in the game and take the lead going into half time. We worked extremely hard during the third and fourth quarters to get within one point in the last quarter but could not steal the game.
This week we travel to Hoppers Crossing for another big challenge. Let’s all stay focused and remain positive this week for this big game. As all good teams do, “let’s stick together”.
Best: Taylor Bisognano, Jack Holland, Liam Whelan, Max Paoli, James Riley, Mathew Dickson, Nic Monarca.
Goals: Lachlan Jowett 1, Max Paoli 1, Tony Plazanic 1, Nic Quinn 1, James Riley 1.

U14C St Bernard’s 6.10.46 lost Sunshine  8.19.67
Goals:    Sullivan 3, Utri 1, O'Connell 1, Nathan 1.
Best: Woods, Utri, Madden, Appleby, Connelly, Foster, Sullivan, DiPaolo
Sunday's game against Sunshine was a great contest between two sides that are fighting for finals positions but there always has to be one loser and we ended up coming out second best. Unfortunately, we are now under pressure to win the next two games of the home and away which I know we can. This is only if we play the way we played in the last quarter against Sunshine.
We have come up against a lot of top aged teams in the last four weeks and to the credit of the team they haven't lost the challenge to win the contest. If we are to play in finals it is all in our hands; it is as simple as that!
Keep in mind the photo night which is Monday the 14th of July at 8.30pm. Also, keep in mind that after training Wednesday week is when we will be having a get together and a pie or sausage.
Peter.
U12A St Bernard’s 2.7.19 lost Williamstown Juniors 17.8.110
Goals: Jack Gilmore & Michael Sauro
Best: Edyn Sibbald Jack Gilmore Marcus De Leur Jack Rennex Nicholas Swan Fergal Utri.
Today we played the fourth side, who were very keen to hold onto their spot. They were extremely fast, hit us with everything and kicked straight. At 3/4 time they were13.3 which was remarkable on such a windy day. We had a good look at ourselves at half time and the boys decided to take 'em on in the second half. We really did  much better kicking 2.5 to 7.5 in that second half.
Edyn Sibbald and Marcus Deleur are truly 2 of the dominant big men of our comp and again starred. Jack Gilmore covers an enormous amount of territory. Coach Damo observed that you will always see Jack around the goals........one minute he saves one, then at the other end he kicks one. His game was remarkable for his perpetual run. Despite the scores Coach Damo thought that the back-line held up very well. Jack Rennex showed his dash from full-back, often charging at a number of opponents running into attack. Fergal Utri was, as ever, hard at it. Callum O'Sullivan took some timely marks and Ethan Baker looks good when he backs his judgement. Nicholas Swan was given the big job at CHB and was in our best again. Lachie Sullivan was suffering the flu and was moved off the ball. Still he let the Willy boys know he was around with some strong work. Jayden Ristevski is probably our fastest player and often won the ball with speed.

Dominic Iermano continued his very consistent year getting plenty of the pill under stacks of pressure. Chris Tormey reads play cleverly and wins a lot of possessions. He copped a whack in the snoz but was soon back into the fray. Will Isaacs, not a tall ruckman, always has a crack and won all of the centre bounces in the second quarter..... all eight of them.
We actually went into attack on many occasions, but the class of our opponents stopped us from staying there. The Lucai, Adorno and Steel, tried hard to get the ball but got crunched a few times. Sam Santoro showed his best endeavour for the season, which was pleasing against a genuinely tough opposition. Michael Sauro seems to be taller each week, is presenting strongly and is a real focal point for us a CHF. Chris O'Bree dived in after the crumbs, but the Willy boys did not spill much. And we should not forget Josh Wallis. He was really sick with the flu, but bravely tried to play. Eventually, when it was obvious that he was short of breath and could not run, Coach Damo sympathetically instructed the runner, "go out to Josh..."
Runner  "and bring him off? "
"No move him out of the centre and put him to half foward, he won't have to run as much there."
He loves the boys, but he is a hard task master is our Coach Damo.

U12 B  St Bernard’s 5.7.37 def. by Old Westbourne 11.8.74
Best; Will, Nick C, Quade, Marcus, Cody, Charlie , Ben, Nick K, Lewis, Joel, Anthony C
The boys played host to Old Westbourne for an early start but the weather was kind. We started some boys in new positions to experience different aspects of the game, learn some new skills and responsibilities required to play in other positions they haven’t played before. Our boys competed strongly all day and continue to listen and do the team skills throughout the game. We didn’t win the game but I am rapt in how they go about their footy on match day, they still have a go and enjoy the game immensely. The development of some of the players has been terrific as it has been a difficult year competing against bigger opposition, but for some boys they have got passed that and developed and played some great team footy, which is very satisfying as coach. Cody, Joel, Lewis, Marcus, Will, Jack, Declan, have all improved while other boys have also improved and need to work hard to continue there improvement by training and practicing at home.
As coach’s we tend to focus on improving the players that need a lot of assistance and sometimes forgetting the players we regard as our better performing players who have higher skill levels, but still need coaching and assistance from the coaches, something I have realised and learn’t from this year as coach. Charlie Benny, Tommy, Alec, Nicholas C & K, have been consistently good players for the team but have a lot of learning and development to work on and I must say they work hard at their footy.
I would like to say thanks for all the parents that get in and help out at training and match day,we have a terrific group. An old saying of mine “Good Parents Good Kids—Good Kids Good Parents”, we are lucky to have such a great group. Thanks again.
Also a special thanks to the families who have volunteered to sponsor our Star Reward System, much appreciated.

U12D St Bernard’s 3.6.24 lost Werribee Juniors 7.9.51
Goals: Daniel Vella 1, Matthew Bell 1, Lachlan Perryman 1.
Best:  Tom Monaghan, Lachlan Perryman, Alex Tsmbardas, Matthew Caterall, Daniel Morabito, Matthew Bell, Ben McNamara
The boys played another very tall side again and on top of the ladder Werribee Juniors, our boys gave everything they had into this game and can come away with this with their heads held high with their solid performance. It was our best 4 quarter performance effort for the season regardless of the score; we had over 50% of the play but our turnovers let us down. Great to see Tom Monaghan, Lachlan Perryman, Matthew Caterall, Matthew Bell, Alex Tsmbardas, Ben McNamara, Hugh McLaughlin and Daniel Morabito continue to be consistent in their games each week and taking their football development to a higher level. Well done to Michael Smith, Jack Stephens, Luke Conway Wood, Bailey Packham, Liam Grech, Thomas Grech, Joseph Prencipe, Daniel Vella, Liam Collins, Christopher Williams, Michael Diamandis, James Kenny and Thomas Noonan these boys chased, tackled, ran and ran all day and again just did not give in, well done.
There is definite improvement with a lot of the boys and are really showing in confidence and their footy shows it. Well-done boys.
With 2 home and away games to go we will demand more hard work, dedication and commitment to training, boys who train hard will be rewarded!!!
Injuries: Michael Smith (knee) Michael Diamandis (corky) Thomas Noonan (blood nose) Matthew Caterall (head) Alex Tsmbardas (sore everywhere)

Our last home game for the year against Altona Juniors, lets play our best footy!!!

Captains: Luke Conway Wood and Bailey Packham, Great game boys, well done.
U10 Red St Bernard's 8-8-56 def Williamstown 4-2-26
Captain for the day was James B, Vice capt James W.
Goals: Ash U 2, Jordy F 1, Marcus B 1, Julian V 1, Aidan B 1, Luke H 1, Luke B 1
This game on paper looked like match of the round and with a narrow 5 point victory the last time we met, the team knew we would be in for a real challenge. The game lived up to all expectations.  Parents and supporters were very impressed with the standard of footy and possibly deserving of a game on the No 1 oval or at least a decent time slot!?
James B won the toss and as instructed we kicked against the wind in the first quarter, as with a little local knowledge, we new it would be a gale by the 4th quarter.
The team took it right up to Willianstown in quarter one, with most of the play in our forward line we were able to kick 1-3 before Willy with some great ball movement scored 2 goals just before the siren. Our half back line led by Charles B, Jordy Mc, and James Happy Gilmour were holding firm, and attacked the ball at all costs, Jordy F worked tirelessly and kicked a fine team lifting goal . The second quarter was a bit of an arm wrestle Marcus B and Luke H kicked  goals yet our opponents were able to score 1 as well. They say the third quarter is the premiership quarter, and the way our team worked into the wind was outstanding, Luke B ran himself into the ground, his dash and run continually kept us going, Ash U kicked a wonderful goal into the breeze, Ryan S was winning the ball across half forward, Luke H was having a blinder on his wing, Aidan B marked and kicked well all day, Jack T was running, chasing and winning possessions.
The last quarter all the hard work paid off with a narrow 2 point lead going into the last change we were able to put through 4-4 to Zip.
James B was giving us a target up forward and doing the hard bullocking work in the packs, Zac C ran and carried the ball and laid some heavy bumps and shepards, Jack M chased down his opponent that resulted in a turn over, Julian V pulled one out of the pack and slotted a great goal, Ash U kicked another ripper goal and had a sensational match, Aidan B Mr Potential kicked another gem, and Luke B capped off a great game with a checkside goal on the run just before the siren to ice a fantastic team performance. Could not be more proud of the team today, we have a wonderful team, and even though we have 7 on rotation most weeks, the kids that come in all step up and play for the Jumper.
Well done team ..  see you at training on Friday.. , Next week we are away to Hoppers last match for the year, before the Fun day the following week.
BTW... Photo's are on Monday the 14th at the clubrooms 7pm

The U9 Red’s had a good win over Old Westbourne. The match report will appear in next week’s newsletter.
U9 White St Bernard’s 8. 12. 60 def Wyndhamvale 0. 5. 5
Captain:    Marcus.
Goals: Jordan 2, Myles 1, Marcus 1, Liam 1, Joshua 1, Connor 1, Anthony 1.
Best: Joshua, Anthony, Dominic, Jordan, Lachlan G, Stephen, Grant, Myles, Marcus & Liam.
I prayed for no wind after last weeks game and was delivered a hurricane.  Our 1st quarter we kicked against a 6 goal  breeze and held the opposition to just 4 behinds.  The boys in the back line worked tirelessly to hold the ball in the 'dead pocket', making it almost impossible for Wyndhamvale to kick goals.  Our second quarter was with the wind and we didn't make good use of the assistance kicking 1 goal 1 behind.  At half time the boys were asked to go and kick at least 1 goal into the gale force wind.  I was almost tempted to put money on each goal scored into the wind and thank god I didn't as the boys responded in a way that we hadn't seen in the last 12 weeks.  They stayed in position, kicked long to a teammate and through sheer hard work kicked 3 goals 1. The boys were proud of their achievement at 3 quarter time and rightly so.  The 4th quarter was a hurricane, 4 goals 10 behinds and if my maths are correct that's 14 scoring shots in a quarter of footy, remembering these boys are U/9 and most playing their 1st season of footy.  Joshua showed that if you are going to snap a goal from the boundary line make sure you do it in front of your parents with your grandfather standing on the boundary line. Well done Joshua, by far your best game. As we said at each break its not just one person who kicks the goal, its everyone in the team who helps out.  The most rewarding thing to come out of today's game was not so much the score but the boys ability to put into practice what they learn at training and be prepared to have a go.  We spend a lot of time talking about team discipline and it paid off today.  Wyndhamvale's coach came over after the game and addressed the players.  He said,  "You boys are by far the best team we have played all year.  You played the game fair and have outstanding talent.  You are disciplined, and that is a credit to your parents, coach and the club."   Every boy should be proud of his effort today. Well done, a great team effort.  Enjoy your footy.

Peter Holland.
