Round 9 Match
Reports:
ATTENTION
PARENTS OF U16 PLAYERS
IT IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO FIND
PEOPLE TO ASSIST WITH
JOBS ON MATCH DAY AND IT IS UNFAIR TO KEEP RELYING ON THE SAME PEOPLE
WEEK IN WEEK OUT.
PREVIOUS DISCUSSIONS WITH PARENTS HAVE INDICATED THEY ARE SUPPORTIVE OF
A ROSTER SYSTEM SO COMMENCING THIS WEEK WE WILL BE ROSTERING FAMILIES
TO DO THE MATCH DAYJOBS-GOAL UMPIRING, TIME KEEPING, UMPIRES ESCORT,
RUNNING WATER AND CLEANING THE CHANGE ROOMS. THE CHANGE ROOMS NEED TO
BE GIVEN A “SURFACE” CLEAN AT BOTH HOME AND AWAY GAMES. ALL RUBBISH IS
TO BE PUT INTO BINS AND THE FLOORS GIVEN A QUICK RAKE OR SWEEP. AT HOME
MATCHES THE SEATING IS TO BE CLEARED OF ALL RUBBISH, AS IS THE AREA IN
FRONT OF THE GRANDSTAND.
IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO FULFIL A ROLE ON YOUR FAMILY’S ROSTERED DAY FOR
ANY REASON IT IS THEN YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ARRANGE FOR SOMEONE ELSE
TO COVER YOUR ROLE.
WE EXPECT THE BOYS TO PLAY AS A TEAM AND THIS IS ALSO TRUE FOR FILLING
THESE ROLES WHICH ALLOW THE GAME TO BE PLAYED IN A SAFE AND FAIR MANNER.
THE ROSTER WILL BE DONE IN ALPHABETICAL WITH THE FIRST FAMILIES BEING
BORZILLO, CAVEN, COOPER, FENECH AND GROSSO AT HOME FOR THE A’S AND BYE,
CONNELLY, CORSO, DELEUR, AND DELZOPPO AT SPOTSWOOD FOR THE D’S.
PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR TEAM MANAGER FOR YOUR ALLOCATED ROLE FOR THE DAY.
THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ALL FAMILIES FOR SUPPORTING THE ROSTER.
ALL OTHER AGE GROUPS PLEASE TAKE NOTE THAT IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO
CLEAN THE ROOMS AFTER EVERY GAME-DO NOT LEAVE IT ALL TO THE LAST TEAM
PLAYING ON THE DAY.

It was a real creepy, foggy & cool day at Werribee last week when
the boys outplayed their rivals at Soldiers reserve.
Cool Hand Luke Larsen was supreme in the ruck and around the ground, as
was the person he was changing with in the ruck
Rollicking James Weir. Bye, Bye Jarrod Bye displayed his skills at
centre half back, giving his opponent not a sniff.
Liam one is a lonely number Utri also played a blinder down back giving
us plenty of run all day. Andrew the punisher Graham in the centre
dominated his position with many disposals. Thomas the tank Mason was
steady & the Boral Bricks goal of the day went to Patrick The Great
Grech. Charlie the mouse Connelly also contributed with 2 good goals.
Mighty Michael Hughes just keeps on keeping on. Great stuff
guys
If we keep training hard and try to demonstrate all the positives of
the year we are in with a big show come late August.

U14A St
Bernard’s 7.5.47 vs. Werribee 14.10.94
Our effort against Werribee was what we have been striving for all
season and apart from a few errors it was a fantastic performance. Well
done to our strong backline which repelled many attacks and created
lots of rebound. Our disciplined wingers, on-ballers and forwards stuck
to the plan all day to prevent the opposition from playing their style
of game and to also get the our share of the play. Overall it was our
best 4 quarter effort for the season so far.
Even though we did not win the game a lot of positives have come from
Sunday. As each week goes by every player is improving through genuine
hard work and the desire to be part of a team. It is great to see
players excited with the challenge of playing in new positions and
taking on new roles within the team structure. The coaching staff do
look forward to the second half of the season.
Best: All 21 players that pulled on the St Bernard's jumper.

We had a good solid win on the weekend lads, well done and great play.
Mid field started off strongly and had plenty of the ball and faded in
the second and third quarter but to their credit fought their way back
when they were challenged by the Coach. Our opposition was second
bottom on the ladder, but that proves to me and the team that you have
to be on your game from the time we turn up until the final siren.
Players that deserve a special mention were Zac in the ruck on the day
and his improvement in the last 3 - 4 weeks in giving us first
possession of the ball. Also Josh's improvement in the backline and
Jezza in the forward pocket to do what he does best-kick goals.
A WINNER NEVER QUITS, AND A QUITTER NEVER WINS

U12 B
St Bernard’s 2.5 – 17 lost Yarraville/Seddon 8.5 - 53
Sunday we were at
home for an early foggy
start and greasy conditions. Y/S have some good tall athletes,
some big bodies and a couple of good ball winners. Our boys were
in for another good test.
We conceded an early goal or two and missed a couple of
opportunities. The boys were having trouble handling the greasy
ball cleanly and it was hard to get our running game going. It
was great to see the boys giving a contest all over the ground.
Our newer boys continue to grow in confidence and win more of the
footy. Keep it up boys. Our defenders were playing a pretty
good game constantly repelling attacks. The first three quarters
was a real arm wrestle with only 14 points in it at three quarter
time.
We had a couple of chances for early goals in the last quarter and
didn’t make the most of them which could have given us a real
sniff. However our boys tired a little and in the last quarter we
conceded four goals which made the result look a little more lop-sided
than it really was. Lets keep working hard at training-hope you
all enjoyed the week off.

Best: Lachlan Perryman, Ambroise Attard, Chris Williams, Liam Collins,
Michael Diamandis, Matthew Bell, Alex Tsmbardas, Hugh McLaughlin,
It was very early start we travelled to a very cold foggy Hoppers
Crossing and struggled to see the goal posts at either end it was that
bad, not to mention no coffee cart at the ground!
Again we met a team that was much taller, physically stronger and
somewhat intimidating, but to the boys credit they fought it out for
the full four quarters. Going to the last quarter the scores were 31
all, more moves were made to the team but our kicking was not the best
in the greasy conditions and it continued in the last quarter. We
slotted six behinds before Michael Diamandis kicked the final goal to
seal the game.
A special mention to a number of players that at times we take for
granted each week, these boys really stepped up to the occasion
especially in the last quarter against the opposition, Ambroise Attard,
Lachlan Perryman, Christopher Williams, Michael Diamandis, Hugh
McLaughlin, Tom Monaghan, Liam Collins, Matthew Caterall and Matthew
Bell. Well-done boys!
It was pleasing to see the second and third efforts by Jordan
Spinazzola, (unlucky not to kick a goal-he kicked 4 behinds) Daniel
Morabito, (tried hard all day) our tall players Michael Smith, Tom
Noonan,( unlucky not to kick a goal- he kicked 4 behinds). Joseph
Taylor and Joseph Prencipe looked like midgets against the opposition
but gave everything they had against a much taller side, Jack Stephens,
James Kenny, Daniel Vella, Bailey Packham, Thomas Grech, Liam Grech,
Kristian Guarino, Luke Attard and Alex Tsmbardas-their endeavour and
determination was fantastic. We need to be mindful that a few of our
players are not eleven years old, yet and we are playing teams that are
nearly twelve years of age and much taller and stronger.
Captains: Liam Collins and Matthew Caterall another great captain’s
game, well done!
U10 Red St
Bernard's 7-16-58 defeated Werribee 2-7-19
Goals: Aiden B 2, Henry J 2, Jordan F 1, Luke B 1, Nick D 1
Today was always
going to be a Big test for
our team against a far bigger opponent in Werribee who have been the
only team to lead us at half time this year. After 2 explosives starts
in the last 2 weeks, the team, had a fair bit of the play early with
quite a few opportunities to score yet could only manage 5 straight
points, goal kicking practice coming up!! Never the less the signs were
looking good. As the game progressed our team really started to
dominate the clearances and ran out quite comfortable winners.
Our mosquito fleet led by Captain for the day Henry J, and well
supported by Jordan F, Luke B, Nick D, and Ash U, just goes to show
that it does not matter how big you are it's what's inside that counts.
Zach C crunched possibly Werribee's best player in the first
quarter with a terrific bump that sent shudders through the Werribee
camp and sending him from the ground. As stated previously terrific
running is the key to our team. Luke B can run all day sets us up
with his dash, Ash U is sooo hard at it and very skilful, likewise
Jordan F is someone who you would go to war with his efforts at ground
level and courage is fearless and his long goal in the second quarter
was fantastic.
Aiden B in the
ruck works tirelessly, his long
left foot kicks and clearances are paramount to our teams success,
Aiden is contender for goal of the year, his intercept mark from the
kick in, and left foot banana to split the middle was our opening goal
and well needed after so many points, this effort lifted the whole
team. Luke D shows fabulous improvement, a first year player, who
showed courage to pack into packs and hold marks, Dylan G ran the ball
out of defence for us in the first half then showed good work in the
ruck. Jyle F is ultra consistent in defence, Lachlan C put his body in
earned a free kick and passed onto a team mate for a shot on goal well
done Lachy. Jackie M owns his wing and chases opponents down, James B
the G-Train always makes an impact either up forward all down back
another ripper bump on the opposition this week. Charles B gives us
drive and attack, Ryan S is a real good mover, looks like taking mark
of the year at some stage this year, James Happy Gilmour is a player
who won't let the ball get past him, Julian V had a huge task up
forward and at fullback in the last quarter with 6 kick outs that hit
the mark, Henry J, is just Henza like Bono or Prince is known by one
name-that's the superstar status he is held in-love watching Henry
play, he is an exciting team player.
All boys deserved and received chocolates this week for a fine
team effort. You can see the improvement in all players each week, they
play for each other and are setting the bar high each week. Let's come
back from the break refreshed and ready for Spotswood at home on the
15th.
Cheers

Bernard’s 5. 2. 32 def Albion 1. 3. 9
Captain: Nathan Birch.
Goals: Marcus (2), Anthony, Dominic, Lewis.
Best: Marcus, Anthony, Dominic, Myles, Nick V, Nick D, Lachlan G,
Lachlan S.
A 10.20am start on a Sunday morning and the parent's looked refreshed,
awake and suitably caffeinated. The boys were eager to take to
the field in the shadows of the wheat silos and show Albion what they
were about. The two teams matched up pretty evenly across the
ground so we knew we were in for an enjoyable game. The boys came
out of the gates at a blistering pace with Nick V straight into a
fierce tackle and the ball driven into the forward line. The ball
seemed to go to and fro between our forward and half forward lines.
Marcus booted our first goal from deep in the pocket after working hard
to get to the footy. The second quarter was just as fast and
tough as the first and the boys started to 'link up' play with good
long kicks and strong marking. Myles showed everyone how to take
a 'hanger', and Liam showed that if you put your hands up in a pack you
can walk out with the mark. Great teamwork from everyone led to
Anthony kicking a goal and boy do these boys know how to
celebrate. The third quarter was no different and the boys worked
hard to get the ball forward. A great goal to Dominic lifted the
whole team and Myles dug deep into his bag of tricks and showed us how
to take a one handed juggling mark on the run, spectacular. An
early goal to Albion showed the boys that if you are prepared to get
your hands in on the footy you come away with the footy. Marcus
again proved potent up forwarded and snagged his second goal for the
game. Not to be outdone Lewis burst through the pack and snapped
a goal on the run with only seconds left in the game. Every boy
should be proud of his game today. As a team we are playing
better and better every week showing confidence in each other.
Well done
boys. Enjoy your footy.
