St Bernards 14.10.94 def Spotswood 8.9.57
Goals: Adrian Dixon, Marcus Giansiracusa, Andrew Graham & Will Sullivan 2, Patrick O’Connell, Jake Van Meel, James Weir
Best: James Weir, James DeLeur, Daniel Riley, Andrew Graham, Liam Jilla, Will Sullivan

Two weeks ago at the pit we were beaten by Spotswood by 3 points-suddenly we had to play them again last Sunday at Spotswood?? With 8 players on the bench we rotated a lot better this time and won the game coming away. Thanks to the Spotswood coach for agreeing to let us have the extra player. James Weir played a super game along with James Deleur. James came back strong after a knock to head. Also good to see our kicking improving & getting rid of the ball on our non-preferred side. Adrian Dixon & Patrick Connell who both played less than two quarters both contributed to the win with some good goals. It was also good to have Will Sullivan back who also played well.
If we all stick together and play as a team we will be a force!

St Bernards 8.18.66 v St Albans 9.11.65
It is great to secure another win as we all have been working extremely hard over the last two weeks, 4 points is the reward.
Following 3 good quarters of hard contested football, our final quarter allowed the opposition to gain the lead for the 1st time in the game with only minutes to go. We all dug deep during this pressure situation and with true St Bernards spirit finished strongly to snatch the victory. There was lots of courage and effort shown by many players during the game as no one gave up.

Considering that we made some simple errors we are using the footy a lot better, consistently running in numbers, using our leg speed, providing strong leads and hitting targets by hand and foot on a more regular basis and playing more as a team. Our game style and structure is consolidating and we are playing some good A grade football. We do however need to be more consistent over the entire 4 quarters; this should come with more experience. Well done guys, a great game and a well deserved win. We look forward to our round 6 game this week.
Remember: Good performances are a result of hard work. You get out of football what you put in!!!!!

Best: All 21 players who pulled on the St Bernards jumper.
Goals: Adam Bevanda 2, Tony Plazanic 2, John Iannello 1, Nicholas Madden 1, Max Paoli1, Nicholas Quinn 1.

Best: Sam Woods, Lachlan Appleby, Tom Madden, Edward Connelly, Zac O'Halloran, Michael DiPaolo, Tom Saundry, Robert Berezdecky, Simon Walshe

Excellent Team effort. Started the game like they just got out of bed, but to the credit of the team, put slow start behind us and lifted to last weeks standard. The team was put under pressure with injuries to three players and Daniel O'Connell being a late withdrawal. Hence we had no interchange in last quarter and needed every player to stand up and which they did. A few acts of courage and 1,2,3 efforts by Sam W and Josh P. By running back with the ball over his head to get a fist on, takes courage Josh. Big improvement by these boys in the last few weeks - Tim R, Lachlan A, Simon W, Rob B, and our little live wire Jezza.
Thanks to all helpers on the day and to Molly for the care and lollies that were much appreciated by the coach/players at half time.
Big game vs Hoppers Crossing this week.
GOOD TEAMS HAVE TEAM PLAYERS AND GREAT MUMS.....HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY.

St Bernards12.16.88 defeated Glenorden 1.2.8

Best: Chris O’Bree, Adorno, Disipio, Bowler, Utri, Tormey, Sauro, Wallis, Jaggard, Deleur, Isaacs, Sibbald, Gilmore
Goals: Disipio (3), Sauro (3), Sibbald (2), Caven, Deleur, Jaggard, Bowler.
Significantly, last week one of the other junior teams reported a leg injury (L I).  Junior President Paul Madden moved quickly, immediately declaring that the U12A group be quarantined to prevent the spread of L I which had clearly become an epidemic within that group.  He also ordered that there be no movement of players between the three U12 teams.

Since then we have had to train on our own in the carpark.  The Essendon footballers came to training on Monday and where were the U12A’s?  On their own, on the soccer pitch, running around in the dark, and not enjoying the training drills with their Essendon heroes.  Desperate measures implemented to prevent the spread of L I.  But we understand they are for the good of the Club.  We suffer in silence. This week we welcomed back Matt Falvey, after a long overseas pre-season.  His father Gary, always a willing helper, was asked to run water.  He was unable to do so because… in the last week of the trip, he rolled his ankle.  And just when we thought L I was on the wane.

We welcomed Glenorden to the Pit and sent them packing.  We played our best running game.  Coach Damo was delighted with the way we kicked to position, handballed to each other and matched our opponents in contesting the hard ball.  It was an even performance where we kicked three goals in each quarter, but also too many behinds and four out on the full.  Our performance has improved dramatically because our good players continue to play very well, and now some of our lesser recognized players are beginning to believe in themselves and play exciting footy.  Marcus Disipio kicked the first three goals of the match using his great strength.  Chris O’Bree and Liam Bowler again dived in almost recklessly to win the hard ball.  Liam managed to finally kick a goal that he has been threatening to kick for the last few weeks.
When Michael Sauro was moved up forward, he became a dangerous target and kicked three goals in the last quarter.  At half forward, Lucas Adorno now has the confidence to go for his marks and is an attacking option for us.  Matt Falvey picked up the pace of the game as the match went on.  Tom Lewis is a creative player.  Jayden Ristevski, Ethan Baker and Lukas Steel both dashed at the ball with confidence.  Callum O’Sullivan and Sam Santoro improve each week and with them, so does the team.
 Well done to everyone!

St Bernards 5-2-32 lost Flemington   9-3-57
A great day for footy and what a great game we had against Flemington. The boy’s were a bit slow out of the block’s after Captain’s Charlie and Will won the toss and kicked with the wind. The game developed into a close and exciting battle until the end. The boy’s trailed at three quarter time by 3 goals and gave it a terrific crack but ran out of steam to go down by 4 goals at the final siren.

Congratulations to the boy’s for not throwing up the white flag and showing terrific determination. Some players had great games, Tommy Dore show great skills in getting many positions around the ground, Campbell Mckenna played his best game and ran the ball forward taking on the opposition at every opportunity, Charlie Vague once again played a strong game winning many possessions from the centre and worked hard all day, Alec Binn’s found some great form in the second half Nicholas K and Nicholas C. also won many possessions and played well. Some of the new boy’s who haven’t played a lot of footy continue to show improvement, Christian, Thomas, Anthony, and Jordan for his first game. Some boy’s have a lot of improvement to do so work hard at the basic’s at training and with your footy homework, practice practice practice. Welcome to the new boy’s Jordan, Michael, Leonard, Jake and their families.
We wish all the Mum’s and Grand Mum’s a very happy and enjoyable mother’s day.
Well done boy’s a great effort.

Best:Tom Dore, Campbell Mckenna, Charlie Vague, Alec Binns, Nicholas K. Nicholas C. Joel C. Christian M.

Footnote: One of our white board’s has accidently gone missing from the room’s. It has THINK written on the back in blue texta.
Also Tom Dore’s St.Bernard’s jacket was picked up by mistake, it has his name clearly marked on jacket.
If anyone find’s either item could they give them to Sarah Vague Friday night at training. Thank’s

Goals: Matthew Bell 1, (first goal in footy) Ambroise Attard 1.
Best: Ambroise Attard, Christopher Williams, Liam Collins, Lachlan Perryman, Daniel Vella, Matthew Bell, Liam Grech, Luke Attard,

James Kenny, Bailey Packham, Tom Monaghan, Hugh McLaughlin
What a difference it makes when you play as a team, we got our bums down and handballed out of the packs which created space for our running game.
We played the top side and the score board is not a true indication of how much play we had. Our players put their bodies first and were more desperate for the ball, our ruck work was excellent, well done Michael Smith, Joseph Prencipe and Matthew Caterall.
Our defenders were sensational they held there positions and fought hard for the ball, our forward line tried very hard with great tackles and keeping the ball in our attacking 50 for most of the game.
Special mention to Daniel Vella, Christopher Williams, (Great sweeper across the backline) Luke Attard, Michael Diamandis, Liam Collins, James Kenny, and Thomas Grech for the great tackles they laid on the opposition. Well done boys!

Our overall work rate was excellent, credit to all the boys, we did not give in!
It was pleasing to see the boys taking the next step in their football development, working together and enjoying their footy.
Captains: Daniel Vella & Ambroise Attard
Overall it was TEAMWORK that won us the game!
Again credit to all the boys!

St Bernard's 7-15-57 defeated St Albans 2-2-14
Goals: Luke B 3, Charles B 1, Lachlan M 1, Ryan S 1, Lachlan B 1

Another early start for the boys, and after a vigorous training session on the Friday night the boys were keen to hit the ground running against the St Albans team. Unfortunately what we seemed to hit the most of was the post! a total of 6 for the match!! Never the less you could not question the boy's work ethic and their ability to work together as a team and keep the ball moving forward.
Captain for the day was Luke B, and he did not let us down, some great take a way's out of the middle, plenty of run, kicked well to hit targets and capped it off with 3 goals, Jordy F is fantastic at getting the ball out of the packs and continuously gives us plenty of drive, Aiden B, Ryan S, Charles B, Lachy B , Lachy M, all gave us lots of run and carry and were hard at it all day. Ash U is one of our best players each week very reliable and versatile, with the ability to read the play very well. Jack T took a big hit, yet bounced back and was a solid contributor for the team . Happy Gilmour always gives us a spark, can't wait to see his celebrations when he kicks a goal, for the Happy Dance!! it's coming Happy!!

As a coach it's terrific to see improvement from players, Zach C  has knuckled down with his footy and his run down of an opponent and smother were  highlights on Sunday the sort of team lifting efforts you look for, good work Zach, Jack M has shown quite a bit in the last 2 games and is making his mark in a variety of positions, Marcus B is another player who is starting to get a bit of the ball and his confidence is building, Lachy C puts in each week and is laying some great tackles and also keeps his head over the ball really well. Ethan G is doing some awesome work in the ruck and contests really well. Nick D, Dylan G and Patrick M are all showing that can play some really good footy.

Boy's let's remember to get to the games on time, makes it a lot easier for the coaching staff to be organised, this week we have Williamstown away, check out the rotation schedule, the website, news letter for time of game, it looks like a 8.50 start this week so try to get there no later than 8.30.

St Bernards vs Point Cook
What a fantastic team effort! The U9 reds had a big big win today. 89 - 8 at home. The ball stayed in our forward line most of the day and so did most of our team. More work on keeping our positions!! Patrick Willach kicked his first goal in U9 football. (Well done Pat)  Christian played a fantastic game and Luke Creighton applied the tackle of the day. (don't think the Point Cook fella appreciated it though). Well done boys.

St Bernard’s 4 - 7 - 31 lost Williamstown Jnrs 5 - 10 - 40.
Captain: Nicholas V.
Goals: Lewis, Fabian, Nick D, Nick V
Best: Myles, Connor, Lewis, Jordan, Nick V, Bradley, Joshua, Marcus.

What a game !!!!  The crowd sure got their money's worth from this game, even if it was free entry.  A scoreless first half that saw a very slick Williamstown go to the long break with a handy 32 point lead.  The second half saw the boys knuckle down, man up and started to play the gutsy brand of football they had been working on for the past 4 weeks.  Some of the boys who had been looking for more confidence stood up and gave it back to a much bigger Williamstown, well done Bradley.  Led by their captain Nick V, the boys kicked 3 goals 1 point in the third term with lots of running from Myles, Connor, Nick D and Daniel.  A 'wall of defence' from Stephen, Ryan, Anthony, Jordan, Lachlan S and Marcus kept Williamstown out of the game and gave us something to build on for the 4th quarter.  The last quarter saw a 'wall of offence' set up with James, Anthony, Darcy and Liam, keeping the ball within 20 metres of goal.  The boys kicked 1 goal 6 behinds,  almost stealing the match.  Special mention to Nicholas V who as captain persevered and eventually kicked goal of the day, and to Lewis who took on the entire Williamstown Under 9's team to kick his goal. Well done boys on a hard fought match.  Keep enjoying your footy and again, thanks to the parents who help out every Sunday morning.
