A Great effort by all the boys for
a job well done. A Really disciplined team who take the effort to
listen and learn will go a long way in this competition.
Great games by Luke Larsen and
Daniel Spinazzola in the ruck, along with our goal sneak Patrick
O'Connell. Marcus Giansiracusa also played a steady game kicking 5.
Overall it was nice to be back in the Western Region after 12 years. A
big thankyou to all the parents who helped out on the day.

Our first round encounter against
a well drilled Altona was a good introduction to the 2008 A grade
season of football.
During the game all players did
try extremely hard and will benefit from the experience of playing fast
tempo and physical football.
As discussed both during and after
the game we now have the challenge in front of us all to lift our work
rate and fitness, improve our skills, game day set ups and structure.
We now look forward to playing
this Sunday's opponent and to work hard as a team to improve our
performances.

My first coaching experience with
the U14 boys was a pleasure, owing to the hard work that was put in by
all players. I'm sure the opposition will improve during the year so we
will need to stick to the standard that we have now set our selves. The
new recruits we have gained played very well including the three boys
who came back from U14 A's. I thank everybody who helped out this week
and for the coming weeks of the season. As for best players, I believe
it was a great team effort and special thanks to our team leaders.
Looking forward to training this week and to work on some of the areas
of football we need improvement. BE DECIPLINED

Juniors 13.13.91
Best: Marcus Deleur, EdynSibbald,

Goal: Chris Tormey
Yes, that is quite a thumping. And
even more astonishingly we kicked the first goal of the game...it was a
bit early to take the foot off the pedal. We also hit the post twice
and that has cost us dearly!
Our opposition was well organized,
fast, displayed good foot skills, was fast, displayed good hand skills
and was fast. We tried hard, but were clearly outclassed. It seemed
that many of the footy lessons that Coach Damo had drilled into
the boys last season had drifted away over the summer. This week
we will train hard and get back to basics.
Coach Damo announced before the
game that Marcus Deleur is our captain for the year. He then went and
played like the leader he is, both in the ruck and at centre half
back. It was a thrill to see his familiar dashes down the ground.
Another tall boy, Edyn Sibbald was in excellent form. Obviously our
back line was under constant pressure and Josh Wallis and Jack
Rennex repelled many attacks from full back. Max
Jaggard, Chris Tormey, Nick Swan and Fergal Utri all played
strong footy and won many possessions. Jayden Ristevski played well on
his wing and Jack Gilmore as always was elusive. Dominic Iermano was
dangerous up forward and Callum O'Sullivan attacked the ball hard at
half forward. Lachie Sullivan on the ball, Will Isaacs in the
ruck and Lukas Steel on half back all tried very
hard. Lucas Adorno and Sam Santoro both had shots
at goal. Liam Bowler and the O'Bree twins, Chris and
Nick, all came into the game in the second half. Michael Caven
injured his hand early in the game and although
he bravely came back on, he was not as effective as usual.
We will certainly improve from
here.

St Bernards 11.9-75 def Port Colts
5.5 - 35
Welcome to a new season and a big
challenge for the boys. Most of the side has skipped past the U/11's
and straight to U/12B's. A big welcome to all the new players and their
families and we look forward to a lot of fun this year following the
fortunes of the boys.First game vs Port Colts and to the boys credit
they have jumped out of the blocks very well. The running game with
handballs to boys in better position was evident from the first bounce.
Coach Vague was reminding the boys at quarter time of the importance of
shepherding whoever is going for the ball and look to kick to a team
mate's advantage.
Second and third quarter the
pressure continued from the boys all over the ground. We had great
running and tackling and a number of the boys certainly listened to the
coaches message of ‘taking people on'. Another great feature of the
boys play was the holding of positions and our onballers not flooding
into the forward line. The last quarter Port Colts fought back well and
outscored our boys which is something we need to work on. As we tired a
little our defensive running dropped off and Port Colts took advantage
of this.
Overall a great first up effort
and it was very pleasing to see how well the boys and the grown ups
mixed in together. It has been a real feature of this team and its
followers to make people feel welcome and to chip in, work together,
and enjoy the footy.

Game one for 2008 and what a
thrilling start it was, congratulations to our first year players,
Jordan Spinazzola, Jordan Galtieri and Jake Campana all three boys
played a great game. Every player contributed there were no passengers
a great team effort. Our hard running players just kept on chasing and
tackling the opposition all day, Tom Monaghan, Daniel Morabito,
Christopher Williams, Liam Collins, Lachlan Perryman, Ambroise Attard,
James Kenny and Thomas Noonan well done boys.
Credit to our back line players
Hugh McLaughlin, Ben McNamara, Matthew Cattrall and Daniel Vella made
it difficult for the opposition to score, especially in the last
quarter when the opposition had the wind advantage, these boys did not
just defend they attacked the ball at all times and took the game on
well done!
Each and every time we were
challenged during the game we lifted our work rate, it was a good four
quarter hit out.
This year we play for premiership
points, we need to work on our kicking, handballing and tackling
skills.
Note: Thanks to John Williams
(team manager) and Darren Attard (assistant coach) for making sure
everything runs smoothly and the parents who helped out on the weekend.

We're off ! The mighty 10Reds
arrived at Altona raring to go. Numbers steadily grew and our 22 became
26! 8 on the bench meant the coaching staff had their hands full.
Congratulations to the boys who played their first game. Henry &
Aisling were this weeks captains. The team got straight into it and
were the better team from the start. Henry, LukeB, Aisling and Jordy F
lead the way, Lockie B in the ruck Ryan, Jack M, James G, Luke H,
Lockie C, Jordy M were all doing well. Aiden, Jack T, Charles, Dylan,
Julian & Lochie M.used their strength and height to our advantage.
Patrick M and Tom L battled hard on the forward line. Nathan gave a
handpass off for a goal, Luke D kicked a goal in his first game Ethan,
Marcus, Will and Tom all contested well and showed plenty of promise.
James B provided the biggest bump seen in Under 10 footy and looks a
real goer. For the first game of the season it was an excellent effort
against a good team. Our big “rotation station” will have to be well
managed with the numbers. Don't forget to practice during the week and
get to training on Friday. Thanks to all the helpers. Matt Beddoe is
now the official coach of the 10 Reds. Let's have a great year! Paul.
U9 Red
The U9 Red boys started off
blazing away in the wrong direction which resulted in an opposition
goal. After the hysteria settled down on the boundary line, so did the
boys. A fight back from Altona in the second quarter gained them the
lead. But our boys with tremendous tackling, smothering and smiles on
their faces fought hard to regain the lead winning by 20 points. Some
of the better players were Joey, William, Christian, Domenic, Angus,
Luke, Thomas, Matthew, Joseph, Ben, Domenic, Jake, William, Mitch,
Kyle, Joseph, Hunter, Patrick, Ryan and Zac.
And I'm sure if Matthew Sauro and Daniel Grech weren't away on holidays
they would have done just as well. Looking forward to next week.

Best : Marcus, Lachlan , Lewis,
Nick D, Myles and Fabian.
A good first up game where the boys showed great enthusiasm and were
prepared to chase down the ball no matter where it was on the ground.
At one stage we had 15 players in the goal square screaming for a 5
metre pass,
we must work on staying in position. It was pleasing to see that the
three basics we covered at training, kicking, handballing and marking
were all standout features in the game. Well done boys and lets see if
we can have
just as much fun this week.
