Congratuations
to
President
Paul
Madden,
his committee, our coaches, support staff,
parents and all players involved with St Bernards on another fantastic
year. A record number of sides and players represented the club in fine
fashion.
The Auskick and Junior programs
are the core and the future of
our club. As a former Junior President it was terrific to see the
manner in which our kids have developed this season and the
great parental support evident throughout the club. It's a bonus having
three teams make the Grand Final .. a fantastic effort by Craig
Connelly and his Under 16 boys to make it, likewise Bill Daimandis
Under 13 side
who were desperately unlucky in a thriller and Jason
Gollant's
Under 12s premiership win.
As a club our priority is to
provide an environment where first and foremost youngsters can enjoy
their footy, develop their footy skills
and hopefully remain involved with the club past thier school years at
whatever level they are capable of whether that is
progressing through to thirds or up to seniors in the VAFA.
For those that have the ability
and dedication to progress to the elite levels our
success in player development is evident. it was particularly pleasing
to note that this year we had a record number of boys graduate to
Calder Cannons list (eight) with several a chance to be drafted.
While
it's great to win, at Junior level the real measures of our success are
participation and
development.
On both counts we are clearly on the right track with
numbers almost doubling in the past decade and St Bernards having more
Juniors
progress to senior ranks and higher levels than any other club in the
region.

Below shows an overview of our Junior program and the ethos we set out
to achieve in 2005. It's pleasing to report in 2010 that we are well on
the way to meeting those aims and are confident of the support of
current and new parents to build upon efforts to date.
Once again well done to all
involved on a great season for Bernards! .. for those that need a
'Bernards footy fix' our Under 18, Under 19, Reserves and Thirds side
will all be battling out finals in the VAFA over the next few weeks

hard to win but ..
We value honesty of

Congrats
to
Coach Craig Connelly and his Under 16 boys on making the Grand Final.
The boys were terrific in winning two finals and almost pulled off the
big one against a strong Altona line up. Reserves Team Manager and 16s
Captain Paddy Moloney had the big crowd on their feet as he marked and
goaled late in the third quarter to bring his side within 12 points but
Altona slipped away in the last to take the cup.
Better result in the
12A's as Bernards snatched a thriller by two points. The 12s now join
the 13s in the Grand Final next Sunday. Great to see a number of senior
players supporting the boys.

REPORTS - FINALS
WEEK 4, Sunday 22nd August
Under
12A - Premiers
Well
done to every member of the
12a's for a fantastic finish to the season with a well ground out Grand
Final win against Hoppers Crossing. This Hoppers Crossing team has been
the ladder leader for most of the season and certainly the favourite to
win this Grand Final with only one loss this season, against us earlier
in the year. Hoppers are a well drilled team who, like many of the
opposition teams, trained twice a week throughout the year.
Having beaten our side in the second semi final, they were full of
confidence going in to this game and deservedly so. We were also
confident and new that our best football had yet to be displayed in
this finals series.
We put the challenge to the team that they had to
be at their collective best to win and if they could produce this, the
result would look after itself and to their credit they rose to the
challenge. The game got off to a good start for us with some clever
work out of the centre and some solid leading in the forward line which
resulted in several opportunities being created around the
goals early. A couple of goals went begging, which might be put
down to the pressure of finals footy and our backline did superbly to
counter this by keeping their team to one goal. Our second qtr was even
better than the first with two goals against a slight wind and holding
hoppers to a single goal. Whilst the score line looked tight, we
certainly had the better of the play around the ground and our running
game was working very well. It gave us great confidence going into the
3rd qtr and our players came out firing.
We kicked 2 goals 5 points for
the quarter and played some excellent football with our centreline and
onballers controlling the middle, the forwards fighting hard to keep
the ball in the strike zone and creating opportunities while the
backline repelled almost all of their attacking play. This was a
dominating third qtr performance and we probably could have
kicked 5 goals 2, which would have put the game to bed, again we put
this down to the pressure of finals. With a quick start to the last
term Hoppers could smell victory and helped by a slight wind at
their advantage they scored a goal early. The ball went backwards and
forwards for the next 7 minutes and at the ten minute mark they scored
their second goal for the term. One goal the difference in our favour.
T
he pressure was well and truly on our players at this stage with what
amounted to a wrestling match between the two backlines. Hoppers had
more forward entries and our backline, strongly supported by our
forward line, which by this stage was entrenched in our backline,
fought on for the remaining seven minutes of the game to hold out for a
magnificent win.
Over the course of he season we have had
some excellent team and
individual performances but rarely have we had every player performing
at their best on the one occasion. Today the team did this and it is a
great credit to all the players that they embraced this challenge, to
be their best, on the most important day of the season.
Best: Without doubt, the whole team
Captains: All players were told they were captains before the game and
today they proved it !!
Well,
today the 25 boys that represented St. Bernards in the U16C Grand Final
did themselves proud. Despite my best efforts to keep the boys
calm prior to such a big occasion, their first quarter effort struck me
as one where the occasion got the better of the boys. Altona
dominated us in general play with their hard running and quality ball
movement and we were lucky to be as close as we were at quarter
time. Our attack at the ball was ok, but our accountability for
our opponent was terrible. I gave the boys a big spray at quarter
time. Again, to their credit, this team responded with a greatly
improved effort. We still lagged Altona by 21 points at half
time, but in terms of field play we were definitely “in the
contest”. Seven scoring shots to 4 in the third quarter reflected
a greatly improved effort from the whole team in general play in the
third quarter. In atrocious wet conditions our attack at the ball
and at the man was first rate.
We took the game on and tried valiantly to get ourselves right back
into the contest. We had narrowed Altona’s lead to just 13 points
at ¾ time and there was real self belief at the ¾ time
huddle. In the last quarter we hit the goal post twice and had
one shot on goal marked on the goal line. We really enjoyed no
luck! We were hard at it, fought the game out well and worked
hard right across the ground. Rebound footy hurt us as we pressed
forward trying to score and I believe the final margin flattered Altona
by a couple of goals. No doubt the premier was the better team on
the day, but our boys really did an outstanding job competing as hard
as they did for the majority of the game. This Altona side has
been the premier “A’ side in U14’s and U12’s and the fact that we
pushed them as hard as we did is a real credit to the St. Bernards
team. I was staggered at the support we enjoyed on the day from
so many from the St. Bernards junior football club as well as the
senior football club. Such support is fantastic and emphasises to
the boys, their parents and friends how strong the wider St. Bernards
community is. This is a credit to everyone associated with the club and
on behalf of the U16C’s, I’d like to thank everyone that supported the
boys on Sunday.
To the U16C’s, it has been a pleasure to coach you this year. To
make the Grand Final in the C’s with so many U15’s is an outstanding
effort. Losing Grand Final’s sucks, I know, but you really were
all winners on Sunday. To Molly, Daryl, Brent, Ric (boundary
umpire all year and he doesn’t have a boy in the team) and all the
parents that helped out each week, thank you all. Our year was a
great journey. The quality of football our boys played improved
dramatically throughout the year, and I hope that every boy felt as if
they received adequate game time and really felt a part of the team.

NB
Presentation Night for U/ 16s Weds. 1 Sept @ 7.15pm
As the
rain belted down 10 mins before the delayed start of our game on Sunday
afternoon it looked like we were headed for dreadful playing
conditions. Fortunately the conditions eased and a bit of success came
our way against a clever Yarraville team as we ran out victors by the
narrowest of margins. Tight finishes have been the mark of our season,
with several crucial games being decided by less than a goal. Whilst
the positive to take from this is that we know how to fight for a win,
we have seen from our recent game against Hoppers Crossing, that this
can also be our undoing. If we are to be competitive this week against
Hoppers we are going to need to capitalise on opportunities when they
present themselves, particularly in front of goal and put early
scoreboard pressure on a team that is not accustomed to being
behind. Hoppers have only lost one game this season, against
St.Bernards at their home ground by a few goals earlier in the year.
Back to Sunday. Jack Thorogood got us off to a good start along with
Farrell, Beddoe and Utri.
We were kicking against the wind so we leaked a few goals early but our
Backline, lead by Birch, was fantastic ,only allowing one more goal
through for the rest of the game. We fought on bravely throughout the
game and managed to put the sealer through, courtesy of McLaughlin very
late in the last quarter. Farrell chimed in with a super goal early in
the last qtr that put us within a sniff of the win- well done boys!!!.
Great efforts from Holland with a lot of tight pack work, Brown with
some strong marking, Matthews with gut running all day, Di Lizio, Moon,
Bonasera and Nathan with some solid defence work, particularly in the
last qtr when real pressure was on. Sykes and Millet had some very
clever touches, both forward and back as did Brock, Catterall,
McAllister and Marcus when they came on.
There
were many changes made this week off the bench, with
significantly different line-ups in place to counter the effects of the
wind and the size and speed of the opposition and we anticipate the
same this week. Jaggard was again in good form and Dylan presented in
the forward line. Charlie Bibby did a great job again in a stopping
role and Nicholas Dachs executed a couple of hard hitting bumps that
show leadership in this area and the rest of the team needs to emulate
this hardness this week along with crunch tackling and shepherds to
gain the advantage over the opposition. Unfortunately Matty Silvestro
didn't get a chance to run on last Sunday but we look forward to all of
our players being part of our winning team this week- well done
everyone.
The Sunshine Heights coach’s reaction when
I shook his hand after the game sums up what our boys have achieved
reaching
next week’s Grand Final.“…You
guys have come from nowhere, congratulations.Good
luck…”.Our form in the last three weeks
has
been awesome. On Sunday, I gave our boys a
spray at
quarter time because I felt their endeavour and hardness at the contest
in that
first quarter was below par for such an important game.We had not done enough with a strong
wind and I was concerned.Well,
this group of U16C’s answered my criticism in the best possible way.Not only did their intensity lift, but
their preparedness to play defensive football along the “dead” side of
the
ground, bottle up play and smother our bigger bodied opponents with
strong
tackling were all highlights.As a
result of this outstanding second quarter effort, we went in at half
time with
a 3 goal lead.The boys then
changed tack completely and played the third quarter really well, as
instructed.We used the wind
well.We attacked from the correct
side of the ground, we spotted up leading forwards and we continually
teamed
well by hand and foot, delivering the ball with genuine skill. All the while, our intensity at the contest
remained, our all around ground pressure was impressive and our ability
to
maintain our backline structure in particular meant we were always
rebounding
any forward foray’s our opponents could muster.A
five
goal
to
one
third
quarter
broke
our
opponents’
spirit.We then scored an
impressive four goals into a howling gale and ran out the game really
well. So, we have achieved what I
had hoped we might, but never dared to really believe it before
Sunday’s final
siren.We have reached a Grand
Final.We enter this week’s game
against Altona having reduced our scoring shots conceded per game
against these
quality teams from 24 to an average of 12.5 in the last 3 weeks. We have built our wins on a strong
defensive focus and all around pressure. We
have
also
increased
our
average
scoring
shots
“for”
from
12
earlier
in
the
season
against
these
teams
to
26.We
are
converting
many
more
of
our
foray’s
forward
into
scoreboard
pressure
and not allowing the contested footy to leave our forward arc
easily.This is very
impressive.If we sustain a four
quarter effort this week; if we focus on hard, contested footy and we
are
ACCOUNTABLE for our man AT ALL TIMES, then we will win the flag.We have the talent. We
have
the
form.We have momentum. All of this equals a strong self belief
that every boy should take to the ground this week.

Trying to write this match report was not as easy as I thought, where
do I
start?
FirstlyI am glad to hear Ben Ronke got
the all clear from the RCH the most
important thing for all of us was Ben's health first and
foremost. This
could be anyone child and the child’s health is the pinnacle in my
books
regardless of the footy result...........get well Ben! I was not
surprised how many concerned teammates and parents asking about Ben,
this is
what make us a great club and community to be a part off.
Secondly the game had it all,
strong wind blowing, strong numbers of Altona supporters and strong
Nescafe to
greet us! It was easy a six goal breeze which we won the toss and
decided to
kick with the wind in our favour, our first qrt we kick 5.6 to Altona
1.0. Two
of our first qtr goals came from Ben then was taken off with
concussion. Altona
had two players tagging Brandon and to Brandon’s credit and skill he
just had
eyes for the ball, you never gave up and once Ben came off you
lifted
your work rate and let’s face it you got us over the line..........
Brandon all
I can say is thanks for playing footy with us!!! We had
many other
players who played very well they just never gave up, but we also had a
few
players that didn’t run or support their team mates which was
disappointing and
simply that was the difference!!!
Thirdly our backline players
especially in the last qrt, with only seconds to go the ball was only
meters
away for Altona just to score a point which would have won them the
game,
our boys threw themselves at the ball and didn’t give Altona a chance
to score
well done to all the guys. Special mention to Anthony C for
putting up
with the 20 or 25 Altona spectators behind the goals every time Anthony
kicked
the ball back into play, it wasn’t easy and something we haven’t
experienced at
this junior level. Our forward line players tried hard but made it
difficult to
run into space when Altona flooded our forward line.
Last but
not least, drawn game at full time, the game
went to extra time (10min extra time – 5min halfs) less than a minute
to go
into the second half scores are level and against the strong breeze
Michael D
marks handballs to a running Brandon who kicks the winning
goal............siren goes.
Co
Captains: Tom D and Matthew
M,
you guys played a great game......well done!
It was
unbelievable joy from our players,
supporters and not to mention coaching staff, runner, water persons
trainer/s
etc,etc,etc
Now we
are in the Grand Final on the 22
August, time and venue unknown at this stage
NOTE: We have normal

The
last time we met Hoppers Crossing we beat them at home by 11 points,
but
unfortunately for us the tables turned and we were only just beaten by
4
points.We held Hoppers scoreless
up until half time but a 3 goal third term saw our lead diminish. To hold a team scoreless for 2 quarters
of finals football is a great achievement and the boys should be proud
of
themselves.Our backline of Nathan
Birch, James Guarino, Anthony Biasibetti, Ben Droege, Callum Quinn and
Oliver Crawford
did a magnificent job.They were
strongly supported by Stephen Newton and Johnny Webster on the wings.
Our fire
power up forward consisted of Grant Newton, Conor Mc Guire, Anthony
Taranto, PJ
Lopresti, Isaiah Ibrahim and Charles Duffy, and when Marc Bortolotto
came on he
got two quick handball receives and kicks. Lewis Spinazzola, who we had
been
waiting for after fracturing his hand, came on and had an instant
impact on the
game.Paddy Kennedy was also put
up forward and battled hard.Declan
Whiteman took over from Stephen
and provided plenty of run.John Cilione
again showed this week how
much he has improved.Ben Droege’s
two strong marks and long kicks in the third quarter stopped the
Hoppers flow
on footy, clearly your best game Ben.The
on ballers of Nick Deleur, Marcus
Holland, Anthony Parlato and Myles
Gollant showed how hard you have to work to stay in the game.We have a very disciplined and talented
football team that works hard at training and on game day. Every parent
of
every boy who has played in this side would be proud of the way in
which they
have played the game and the manner in which they conduct themselves
both on
and off the field.
Both Vin and I
would like to thank all the parents who assisted with the running of
this team,
your time and effort is greatly appreciated.Lastly,
we
would
like
to
thank
the
boys
of
the

team.Each boy has been a
pleasure to coach and to watch their development over the past 17 weeks
has
been both rewarding and satisfying. They are a great bunch of boys who
enjoy
each other’s company and hopefully along the way have formed strong
friendships. To see how upset they all were after the game is testament
as to
how committed they are to each other. Unfortunately we say farewell to
our
strong man Callum Quinn and wish him all the best in Sydney. We hope you have enjoyed your footy
this year and will see you all for pre-season in the new year. Thank
you also

Best: Saundry, Woods, Madden, DeLeur, Tamraz, Utri. Goals: Utri 5,

We travelled to Galvin Park, Werribee, to take on a team that beat us
by 64 points the last time we played them. How we performed today
would provide a clear indication of the progress this team has made
since coming up from the ‘D’s’ to the ‘C’s’. In a hard fought
first half, we found ourselves up by 7 points and well and truly in the
contest. Tom Saundry, Sam Woods and Tom Madden, along with our
dominant tap ruckmen (DeLeur and O’Halloran) ensured we enjoyed a lot
of early forward entries. Conor Utri was a great target at full
forward, and Paddy Moloney really applied great forward line pressure,
whilst Jezza kicked a trade mark set shot against a strong wind and
Lachie Appleby a perfect ‘crumbers’ goal. Our back six of
Williams, Rose, Connelly, Purcell, Zac/Marcus and Simon/Brentten/Matty
absorbed a lot of pressure and repelled plenty of Sunshine forward
thrusts, particularly in the second quarter. Sam Payne and Ben
Nathan really came into their own in the second half, providing added
impetus to our dominance across the middle and across our half forward
line. Our rotating small forwards of Sullivan, Cooper, Walshe,
Bergin, Larsen and Appleby all ensured we applied plenty of forward
pressure on Sunshine, allowing us to really dictate terms in the second
half. Shaun Tamraz returned to football after 8 weeks with an
injured back to put on a football clinic on his wing and HBF – welcome
back Shaun! 20 scoring shots to 2 after half time really tells a
story. We ran the game out really well, we lifted our intensity,
we continued to work for each other and we ran out deserving
winners. We ponder next week’s preliminary final with a strong
sense of self belief that it will be yet another step on the path to
the chance to compete for the ultimate prize. Stay focused
fellas, strive to improve again next week and you will achieve
something very special. Well done. Craig Connelly

This week saw the end to a great season for the U12C team. I stressed
to the team that making it to the finals is a great achievement by any
measure, and they should be very proud of their success. They have
shown great strength and potential, and the skills of the team as a
whole have improved tremendously over the season. Well done to everyone
on the team! So to our last run around the ground for U12C for
2010..... Ash played a powerful game showing her strength and agility
in trying conditions. Patty Matthews stepped up and was quick all over
the ground. Thanks to you both for joining us this week from U12A. Nick
played another superb game, and his second for the day - manning up on
the opposition's biggest and most effective bloke - you're a champion,
Nick! 'General Blake' stepped up and lead the team well, playing a
great Captain's game. And true to form, Luke B played a great game and
was leading from the front as the Vice Captain. Matt A was a tower of
strength in the backs, again showing a great 'footy eye'! Mark was his
reliable self in the forwards, and bagged one big one. Seb did a great
job wherever he played, and stood up to the pressure from the
opposition. Lachie continues to display great courage and strength -
great to watch! Nathan has improved out of sight this year, and played
a great game. Tyler was under the pump a number of times, but showed
his strength and soldiered on. MacKenzie showed his skills were
consolidating, and how about that run with a few bounces?! Tom played
his fantastic runners game, and created opportunities whenever he got
the ball. Will was his rock-solid self, and great in the backs - thanks
mate! Patty played a cracker of a game, never giving up on the
competition. Toby ran all day, and had heaps of good disposals. Matt S
adapted his forward game to the conditions, and had plenty of touches,
including bagging a big one. Walshey did all he could to present as a
target up forward, and bagged a big one from his efforts. James had a
solid game wherever he played - thanks for your commitment this season.
Jules did great all over the ground, and continues to be the best at
bending down and picking up the ball - despite being one of our tallest
players! And I saved one of the magic moments to last - that
tackle/crash from Darcy on the opposition's biggest and most dominant
player. This showed great courage and strength on Darcy's part - a
fitting way to end his season. Again, thank you boys for the privilege
of being your coach this season. I have really enjoyed the experience,
and the opportunity to be part of a great team, in a great club. I look
forward to our presentation night (date TBC), and hopefully seeing as
many of you as possible next season. Thanks also to all the Mums and
Dads - your honest feedback and support to me was invaluable. Good luck
with your future footy aspirations. Paul Nathan 0420 302 726.

Week 1 of the finals series and the conditions were pretty tough. With
plenty of rain overnight and an 8.30 a.m. start at Werribee didn’t seem
dampen the enthusiasm of the boys, they knew it was finals and for many
of the boys there first finals experience. Our Captain for the finals,
Nick Deleur won the toss and we kicked with what little wind there
was. Our on ballers, Nick Deleur, Marcus Holland, PJ Lopresti and
Anthony Parlato clearing the ball quickly from the centre and pushing
it forward to our tall forward structure of Charles Duffy, Isaiah
Ibrahim and Myles Gollant. Our half forwards of John Cilione
Conor Mc Guire and Declan Whiteman held the ball in our forward zone
opening up plenty of scoring opportunities. Paddy Kennedy played like a
seasoned campaigner getting in and under the packs clearing the ball
out. The boys work rate was high and were rewarded with an 8 point lead
at the first break. Marc Bortolotto was strong in the backline
inspiring the other boys
The second quarter started strongly again with Werribee throwing
everything at as. Our talented half back line of Callum Quinn, Ben
Droege and James Guarino stopped Werribee dead in their tracks. Anthony
Biasibetti, Stephen Newton and Nathan Birch had little to do but
quickly sprung into action when the ball did slip through. John Webster
and Oliver Crawford were solid on the wings, with Olly clearly playing
his best game. Anthony Taranto came on for the second quarter and used
his height to advantage. At half time we had a 22 point lead and looked
in a strong position for the second half. The boys were asked to work
hard for each other and the second half they showed what they were made
of. Grant Newton snagged his second goal for the year and Anthony
Taranto like so many other boys in the team saved his best performance
for finals footy. Stephen Newton came on off the bench and got a quick
kick pushing the ball forward. Werribee didn’t trouble the score board
till late in the 4th quarter and posting their third score after the
siren. Declan Whiteman was impressive getting his head over the ball
and having a red hot go. It was pleasing to see all the boys lift
for the finals and have now been rewarded with a second final against
Hoppers Crossing. We must remember to concentrate 100% for 100%
of the game. Well done on a tough game played in tough
conditions. Train hard this week and enjoy your finals footy.
Peter Holland & Vinnie Mc Guire.

TEAMS / PLAYER
NUMBERS / & PLAYING PHILOSOPHY
As a growing and successful club we have found it necessary to
implement a formal club policy in regards to many areas of player, team
and football club management. This has been due to a large influx
of player numbers over a short period of time.
We as a committee have discussed this and assessed other junior
football club policies and consequently believe that we need an
open and transparent policy . This policy will come into existence for
the 2009 season. It will be a policy that is developing and as such
will be altered in the future to ensure that we are keeping up to date
with the needs of our junior football community.
To help in this policy development and
communication, two Coaching coordinator’s have been appointed. We
welcome to this role Andrew Vinecombe and David McAllister. They will
be involved in overseeing and contributing to the areas of – Player
numbers & selection, team grading, coaches and player interaction
(including special needs players) player/family grievance process, as
well as imparting the club philosophy.
PLAYER NUMBERS
/ SELECTION
Preference will be given to existing junior players re-registering,
siblings of existing players wishing to play for the 1st time, new
players that have an association with the Senior club or St Bernards
School or are a child of a previous club player. Once registration day
has been conducted and player numbers are known, we will be able to
communicate and confirm the number of players per team.
For any given Under 10’s , 11’s , 12’s , 14’s match only 24
players can be named on the team sheet and take the field. Given that
this philosophy will only come into being in 2009, age groups or teams
that have previously had more than this number will still be able to
accommodate the extra players. (A formal, fair rotation of players
throughout the season MUST be undertaken by the TEAM MANAGER &
COACH ). New teams coming through from under 9’ will now come under
this policy from 2009 onwards. Note: For 9’s - 12’s it is the club
policy that players are rotated in different positions to gain
experience. There is also an expectation that U/14s + 16s are given
opportunities to develop in different positions.
TEAM GRADING /
SELECTION
Due to the growth of our club and significant parental feedback we have
decided to commence grading of players at the under 12 level through to
under 16’s. This is to ensure –
a) The development of top age players in a lower grade. These
players may not currently have the skill or ability to play in
the highest grade and playing in a lower grade will ensure more game
time to develop skills . Also it may act to protect smaller body
top age players to play in a lower grade.
b) Players that are bottom age but have the skill and body to compete
in a higher grade are exposed to a quality of football that will help
them to develop their skills further. We would like to ensure that we
maintain a equal opportunity to play football to all players. This has
a profound impact on the self-esteem of the child, the development of
their skills and understanding of the game. To this end the following
selection policy has been developed.
HOME &
AWAY SELECTION
24 players are able to play each week. If the team list extends beyond
24 then players will need to be formally rostered off during the season
(documentation will be kept by the coach and team manager).
All players will be rotated equitably. Ideally each player up to under
14 but not including14A’s should receive a minimum of 3 quarters. This
may depend on injuries, issues of player discipline and player fitness
levels. There is an expectation that from 14’s and above each player
should play a minimum of 2 quarters.
It may be necessary at the under 16 level for some players to receive
more game time. This may be due to a player being considered for
selection in competition or higher grade teams.
For the 1st 6 rounds there may be some juggling within teams as part of
the development, grading
process and team balance process. Please note that the policy is
reviewable at the discretion of the committee in conjunction with the
coaching co-ordinators.
FINALS
SELECTION
Finals football is considered different to the home and away season .
The selection policy for finals will be based on the following –
a) An opportunity for as many players as possible to experience finals
football
b) An understanding that player selection and playing time for
individual players gives the team the best possible opportunity
to do well
NOTE - Ideally a player will receive a minimum of half a game
c) An understanding that the policy will provide coaches in the under
14’s through to 16’s a greater scope for varying playing time for
individual players than under 11’s and 12’s
d) Note it is not the intent of the club to have a roster greater than
24 per side but from time to time this may be unavoidable.
Please note that there is a minimum of 6 games that need to be played
to qualify to play for a team in
the finals.
GRIEVANCE
PROCEDURE
It is understood that parents may at times have concerns for their
child or themselves. We believe as a committee that we have tried to
address the majority of these concerns through our policy development
in the areas of team selection, player rotation, dealing with players
and the clubs code of conduct. In the event that a grievance is to be
raised, we suggest the following process –
a) Wherever possible please approach the coach to resolve the matter
(do not undertake during a game, it is suggested to do in the following
week)
b) If the parent believes that it is not possible to approach the coach
or the issue has remained unresolved after discussion, then a committee
member should be approached (COACHING CO ORDINATOR)
c) The coaching coordinator will then discuss with the coach to try and
resolve the issue.
d) If it is not possible to resolve the issue then the Junior President
will mediate and provide a binding resolution.
COACHES &
PLAYERS
To coach within the league, it is mandatory by the WRFL that all
coaches are accredited as a minimum level One Coaches. (or to at least
obtain one during the season) Coaches will be expected along with their
team manager to attend a coaches meeting during the season to update
the status of the team, address resource issues and share positive and
negative feedback. This information can then be shared amongst the
coaching Group.
On field discipline and player management is the domain of the coach.
Our clear objective is to play the game in the spirit of fairness and
mutual respect for teammates, opposition players and umpires. All
coaches should have a working with children certificate (new coaches or
those without certificate please talk to the coaching co-ordinators)
Special Needs
of players.
There may be players whom we are advised or become aware that they
require special needs.
Learning difficulties – Not all students within a classroom
learn the same way or at the same rate.
We advise all coaches to become aware where possible of these needs and
modify coaching techniques to help accommodate these learning needs.
Emotional and
Social difficulties – There may be uncooperative behaviour from
time to time. This may be just be adolescent behaviour and nothing more
.However if it is a demonstration of possible further issues that the
playing may be experiencing. The coach will endeavour to assess the and
understand the situation and communicate this the committee / parents
in a constructive manner with a view to achieving a positive outcome
for the child. Please leave on field discipline, coaching and player
direction to the coach and team officals.
The coaches require players to attend training on time and with the
appropriate training equipment and attitude. Discipline at training is
just as important as on the game day.
GAME DAY
Parental

Parents are invited and encouraged to be involved with the club we
understand that this is an individual choice, however the club
