U19's Marathon

18 March 2015

The Football Academy is finished for another year. Almost 100 players aged 14 to 18 went through this excellent program, and they now return to team based training.

To get the three under 19 teams focussed and fired up, Rocky Iannello and his under 19 coaching panel organised a marathon training day, into which the boys threw themselves enthusuastically.
It was still dark for the 7am start on buses to Whitten Oval, but the sharp/fast workout in the indoor facilites certainly woke the boys up. From there it was on to Mt Macedon where the 60 strong group ran to the summit (picture attached) and back down to the buses. Team members urged each other on in the face of this very tough challenge, with a number of players showing strong leadership qualities.
It was lunch and rest time back on the buses as they headed to Fitafex Camp in Heathcote. However the rest didnt last long, like the seniors before them the under 19's faced two hours on the testing Fitafex obstacle course, and the "pit of pain" gym circuit workout.
Despite aching limbs and tired minds the players all pushed on and on, testing themselves and building their teamwork. As the final man crossed the finishing line and did the last pushup, a great sense of achievement surged through the group knowing that its the hardwork now that will pay dividends later in the year.
At days end a very tired but satisfied group stumbled off the buses back at the club. We would like to thank the coaching group for organising a first class day and the players who showed such great commitment and work ethic to complete this 12 hour marathon day.
You cant help but be impressed with the attitude of this under 19 group, and we urge all supporters to get behind them and the club as our big 2015 campaign kicks off.
Sponsorship & Membership packages are still available, so dont delay sign up and support the boys today !!
