Guest Speaker : Old Collegian, 1972 u/19 Premiership Ruckman and Racing Journalist/Editor, Mr Danny Power

Danny Power graduated from the school and played a key role in the ruck as part of the 1972 u/19 Premiership Team. After playing on in 1973 and 74 he pursued a journalistic career which became focussed on the racing industry. Danny started in the racing dept of the colourful Truth newspaper. His successful career of some 40 years also included a stint as Lee Freedman's Racing Manager in the halcyon Freedman days of 1992 to 96. In recent years Danny has progressed to be the Editor of Racing at The Slattery Media Group.

The Slattery Media Group (SMG) was created in 1994 by prominent journalist, publisher and author Geoff Slattery as the contracted publisher for the Australian Football League—Australia's leading sporting body.

Since those early times, SMG has grown to become a prominent, independent book publisher and digital producer, while growing the business of AFL publishing to unprecedented levels.

During 2010-11, The Slattery Media Group produced forty books (for the book trade and custom clients), including histories, biographies and memoirs, cookbooks and children's books. SMG’s publishing focus is to provide a voice for Australian writers and creative's.

Danny will reflect on his time at St Bernard's and his career in and covering racing, including some of the prominent, successful and at times notorious identities associated with the sport of Kings. We also look forward to hearing how Danny rates the flying Black Caviar vs greats of the past like Phar Lap, Vain, Manikato and Makybe Diva.

On "Black Caviar Day" lunch with a learned racing scribe like Danny, is perfectly timed and we encourage you to bring your friends book early and join us.
