Peter DeLuca Golden Dooks Award

02 May 2014

Lifelong St Bernards supporter, the very colourful and friendly Peter "Dooks" DeLuca, sadly is no longer with us.

He left his wife Rae and family to cherish his memory, and now with some help from another great clubman Gerald Foley, an award has been struck in Peter's honor and memory.
The "Golden Dooks" award will be presented at each home game, to a club volunteer that has distinguished themselves through dedicated and tireless hard work. The recipients will often be the unsung hero's of our great club, who dont seek recognition, but rather just enjoy doing things for others. Special thanks to Gerald Foley for organising the logisitcs around this new award.
Football Development is at the core of our clubs culture and mindset. The summer "Football Academy" has now been running for 4 years and has been instumental in attracting, improving and retaining quailty young men at the club. This 10 week preseason for 15 to 19 year olds, develps young men as both players and as positive members of the community. Many of these players have now progessed into being strong contributiors in the senior club.
Launched by current Football Director Craig Connelly, the program the last 2 years has been managed by Shane Denahy. In addition to many hours running the Academy Shane also coaches our u/19 north team along with Matt Mulkearns.
It was my honour on saturday to present Shane with the first "Golden Dooks" award, and we thank him for the proactive, keen and positive approach he takes, working with our young rising stars.
We hope that Rae and family takes comfort in the knowledge that Peter is still remembered very fondly at the club ,and the award in his name is a very fitting way for "Dooks" to carry on as he alwasys did, supporting the club.
