One of the great character’s around St Bernards footy club ‘Miracle’ Mel Beyer celebrated a remarkable milestone last Saturday with his 300th game as coach.

Mel has coached countless players and done a million jobs around St Bernards over many, many years. Aside from coaching Mel is the bloke that’s cooking the BBQ, helping out at the pre-season camp, running the Annual Major Raffle, Organising the Melbourne Cup Calcutta, getting the pasta sauce from the Linc and a hundred other things I could list. In recent years Mel has received huge support from his ‘better half’ and joint club No. 1 ticketholder Deb Marinier.

Mel has coached Under 16, Under 17, and Warriors teams over 20 seasons and has enjoyed four premierships along the way.

Miracle will be the first to admit that he is not a new age or technical coach, indeed, he still rejects the 1970’s fad of using witches hats but he is a ‘heart and soul’ St Bernards person who is involved for the right reasons, to help young blokes play footy. Ask the players who their favourite coach was and many simply say ‘Miracle’

Mel’s popularity with his players was demonstrated on his 50th birthday party when his former U16 and U17 Captains over 12 years attended and posed for a photo with their former coach.

All at St Bernards salute Miracle on a fine achievement.
