Lightning to Strike at the St Bernard's Gift

The fastest athlete's in the state, will be moving like lightning on sunday feb 5th at the St Bernard's Gift. The St Bernard's Gift is one of a series of prestigious events, run by the Victorian Athletics League (www.val.org.au). In a professional athletic's season culminating with the world famous Stawell Gift, which was first held in 1878.

Races at St Bernard's will be run over distances between 70 and 2,000 metres on a handicap system, allowing every athlete the opportunity to be competitive in any race.

The starting gun for the opening event will be be fired at 11am and the day will be filled with an action packed program.

Feature events include: 70m Don Furness classic, 800m feature race, 2000m open, 800m for women and veteran's, 70m womens dash, 1600m novice, a footballers cup and all culminating with the Blue Ribbon 100m Gift Final.

Early track preparations are all ready underway,and we are targeting another super fast deck this year. Casual food and drinks will be available from our award winning kiosk, while those looking for airconditioned comfort will be able to relax upstairs and enjoy a panaoramic 180 degree view of proceedings,while enjoying an icy cold beverage and gourmet lunch.

The 2012 Gift will also have a special family focus and children of all ages are especially welcome. A childrens handicap race will be held and a jumping castle will give those little future aths stars a good work out.

In an Olympic year this event is a great chance for local sports fan's to whet their athletic's appetite and see the fastest and the best scorch down the St Bernards track.
