Jason McCartney at Academy

29 February 2016

The St Bernards Football Academy for 14 to 18yr olds, finishes its 6th big preseason this friday.

Following on from other guest coaches this summer, Tigers Brandon Ellis, Bulldogs Tom Liberatore and Coaching Legend Kevin Sheedy, the Academy finishes with a Club BBQ and another top class guest.
Inspirational AFL player/development coach/list manager Jason McCartney is coming to the Snakepit, to talk to our players about football development and to then assist with training drills & activities.
Jason was a leading AFL player before being caught in the horrific 2002 Bali bombings, in which 88 Australians lost their lives. Jason was very badly injured with second degree burns to over 50% of his body. Jason's life was literally hanging in the balance, however his courage, determination and focus saw him bravely fight back to not only regain his health, but to even make an AFL comeback in june 2003.
Despite being heavily bandaged under his long sleve jumper and wearing protective gloves, Jason helped the Roos snatch a last gasp win !
Jason immediately retired, going on to be a highly rated development coach and is now the list manager responsible for the very exciting young team at the Western Bulldogs. Jason will be at the Academy from 4.45pm this friday the 4th, and the club is holding a BBQ with all welcome to see the Academy finish its 6th outstanding preseason program.
The club is very greatful to the founders of the Academy, the late Gary McAllister and Football Director Craig Connelly for turning their vision of a first class Development Academy into reality. We are especially grateful to current Academy Director & U/19 Premiership Coach Rocky Iannello, and Academy Directors Shane Denahy and Peter Holland for their ongoing Academy management. Rocky, Shane and Peter work closely with specialist boxing coach Glen Walsh, and fitness/conditioning expert Bernie Doolan to deliver a very professional, innovative and fun program, to help all the players maximise their football development.
So well done to all involved, and everyone is most welcome to see Jason coaching the players this friday, and to enjoy another Frasers Gourmet Meats- Club BBQ .
