Irish gets the job done in Afghanistan

24 September 2013

Great to hear from Michael ‘Irish’ O’Dea who is currently serving at the Multi National Base Tarin Kowt located in the Uruzgan province in Southern Afghanistan.

Irish was part of ‘Miracle’ Mel Beyer’s U17 Premiership in 2005 before making his senior debut in 2007. A tough and uncompromising backmen, Irish regularly put fear into opposition sides (and sometimes his own team mates) as he charged off half back. Irish is now ‘Corporal’ O’Dea and is employed as a Service Policeman, responsible for various policing and security functions throughout the Multi National Base base.
Irish joined us earlier this year at our pre season camp in Anglesea which we’re tipping was a little easier than his current location. Pictured in his Bernards T Shirt Irish is looking forward to returning home at the end of the year and joining in a few pre-seasons sessions and of course enjoying a few beers with the boys.
Best Wishes to Irish and we look forward to seeing him back home at ‘the Pit’.
