Vale Godfrey Gilmour

The club is sad to report  the passing of Godfrey Gilmour on Sunday 7 April. Godfrey had recently fought a very brave battle with a heart condition and with skin cancer. After a successful operation to remove a cancer it appeared that he was on the way back to good health, but a cardiac arrest took his life on Sunday.

Godfrey had been a great supporter of the football club over the past thirty years and served the club as a vice president to Michael Perrett for many years.

He has continued in that role over the past ten years, where he has served on the Board of the Moonee Ponds Club. The last six as Vice President. In addition he performed the role of Sponsorship Director, with great skill and honesty. His sound advice and wisdom will be missed.

In addition his five sons, Andrew, Paul, Mark, Adam and Robert all played with the club in junior and senior football. Paul being a best and fairest winner in our A grade side. Paul was coaching our Under 12's team on Sunday when he was given the news of his father's passing. His daughter Maree, is married to Matt Overman, where there is another long time association with the club.

A talented sportsman, Godfrey actually was an opponent of St. Bernard's when he played football for Coburg Amateurs. He also played cricket at District level, with Carlton and North Melbourne.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and we extend our sympathies to wife Kathy and all the family.

The funeral will be at St Therese's on Friday at 2:00pm followed by a gathering at the Moonee Ponds Club from 3:30pm.
