Football Development and Fundraising

27 August 2014

On Saturday the club held its "Graduation Lunch" with guest speaker Justin Madden entertaining the crowd.

This lunch welcomes under 16 parents and players to the senior club for 2015, and also the under 19's who will step up into senior teams. At the lunch we highlighted that Football Development is our no1 focus. The club continues to invest strongly in football development, thru the Football Academy alongside coach education, development coaching, school coaching and elite senior coaches. Our aim is to make St Bernardsfc the best possible environment for players to maximise their potential on field and have a rewarding and fun sporting experience. It is our raffles and fund raising events that go a long way to facilitating this critical investment into football development which inturn makes the club stronger.
After a strong win against a determined De La Salle, the club settled in for the big $10,000 Raffle and Party. Thanks to all who supported this very important club fundraiser by purchasing one or more tickets, and a special thanks to our many "Raffle Ambassadors" who volunteered to sell multiple tickets, in many cases up to 10. The Diamond Dogs Coterie Group chaired by Vinnie McGuire, were again rock solid support buying over 50 tickets as a collective.
In what was a very enjoyable night for attendees its was eyes down from 7.30 for the big draw. Some 260+ balls went in the barrel with Secretary Michelle Denahy and Admin Assistant James Delzoppo expertly overseeing proceedings.
Before long just 5 people were left in the draw, senior player Jake Bevanda, past player Andrew Smith, team of the half century player Ray King, Ivana Crabb and school chairman, club life member and past player Peter Hogan. After some schrewd negotiations and the drawing of the last five balls all of the final five took home a nice little slice of the pot, while Peter Hogan will boast the biggest smile today. Those at the event then kicked up their heels as a DJ with special lighting pumped up the volume with some energetic people dancing the night away. The finale was a special musical session on guitar and vocals by Will Kingston and Josh Madden belting out some sing-a-long anthems with defensive coach Matty O'Connor also showing he is a man of hidden musical talents.
On being notified the following day of his good win by email Peter remarked "i was treasurer of the club for seven years and have been buying tickets in this raffle for 40yrs, it just goes to show St Bernards persistance does pay off !"
Congratulations to Peter and we wish you all the best negotiating with ticket seller son Ben, who we believe is sniffing round for a commission !
So welcome again to all the under 16 players/parents "graduating" to the senior club in 2015 and to the u/19's moving into senior team.  Also thanks again to all those who supported the $10,000 Raffle, you are helping us pursue our football development focus and your support is strengthening the club both on and off the field.
