First Light Racing at The Snake Pit

26 February 2014

St Bernards FC is pleased to announce a new Gold Sponsor in First Light Racing has galloped into the Snake Pit.

The club is delighted to announce that Old Collegian and past player Sam Kilkenny, who has wanted to get back involved in the club for a few years, has made the leap and signed up his horse racing syndication company, ‘First Light Racing’ as a Gold Sponsor. Sam Kilkenny finished up his illustrious (his words) career after a few seasons in the U17 and U19 teams, when he chose a racing career working for a rails bookmaker at the age of 20. Since then, he remained a supporter of the club, whilst owning shares in thoroughbreds with success. This has led to the beginning of First Light Racing (FLR).

FLR have been syndicating horses for four years, and are beginning to cement themselves as an industry leader for owner communication, and success. They aim to deliver the ‘ultimate racehorse ownership experience’ in providing an informative and social environment to make every racetrack experience a great one. FLR have now had 20 horses get to the races. All 20 have ran a place (100%) and 15 have won races (75%). These statistics are unrivalled.

Using Group 1 winning trainers Mat Ellerton & Simon Zahra at nearby Flemington, FLR have come out the blocks running in 2014 with a strike rate of 30%. Five city winners over the last nine months whose average yearling price is only $25k including Miss Maggiebeel ($13k horse now won $100k), Epic Saga (2013 Derby runner ) and Menage A Charge (Flemington 2YO winner owned by a few St Bernard’s ex-players) are just a few of the success stories.

FLR is going to hand pick a horse from an upcoming yearling sale that will be offered exclusively to St Bernard’s followers. A name competition for the horse will also run, so more to follow!
