New Board member Vinnie McGuire has formed a new Coterie Group ‘The Diamond Dogs’ which was launched at a gala dinner in Eureka Towers on March 10.

Attendees at the launch enjoyed stylish food, drinks and first class service with spectacular views of Melbourne. Guest speaker, GWS coach Kevin Sheedy enthralled the crowd with his insights into the new AFL expansion club and some unique items were made available for auction.

The Group aims to raise the funds necessary to enable St Bernards OCFC to provide the best possible infrastructure and resources in the region and importantly to have the Diamond Dogs assist our players in career guidance, development and business network opportunities.

Growth in the size of the club has more than doubled in less than a decade and with over 640 players from Auskick to Senior VAFA football the club recognises the need to provide a first class football environment to its players cannot be sustained via traditional methods of player subs, raffles etc and requires far greater support from supporters and the broader St Bernards network.

Speaking at the launch night Vinnie announced that "the Diamond Dogs have already established a committee comprising Vinnie, Phil Hannah, Brett Coverdale, Bernard Saundry, Luke Gollant, Pat Saundry, Gerrard Dillon, Peter O'Dea (Treasurer) and John Hughes, we are fortunate to have Gerard Dillon on our committee as he has been a part of the Essendonians Coterie group for many years including the position of treasurer and has a wealth of knowledge in this area".

"Our aim is to raise $60,000 and whilst this is ambitious we are well aware of the generosity that exists throughout the St. Bernard’s network."

In his address on the launch night, Vinnie summed up the specific objectives of the new group. "The Diamond Dogs has been launched as a vehicle that aims to..."

  • Provide a social network for a like minded group of people
  • Provide a forum for former players and friends to gather and enjoy each others company
  • Support the club in achieving it's objectives via financial and marketing support and to make us the leading sporting club in the Northwest region
  • Underpin the future success of the club by ensuring we provide the best possible facilities and resources
  • To identify and encourage employment, career advice for our players via the St Bernards network
