St. Bernard's Old Collegians Football Club supporting Community Programs

St Bernards Old Collegians Football Club, have over many seasons supported a range of Community Activities and Charities in the north-west. The latest is the funding of a special literacy program at Jackson School, St Albans.

Jackson School is ‘day special school’ where students have their own special educational programming and are involved in a range of special educational programs.

Club administrator, John Raffle, works at this school as a teacher. The school has been promoting literacy across all aspects of the school’s program over the last three years.

The Literacy Program, with reading in particular, is vital for students learning, enjoyment and improvement in their educational and life experiences.

John, along with other staff members, have taken up the ‘Books-in-Homes’ Program to ensure each student involved in the program will have a series of books to read at home. The school itself benefits further by receiving over 144 books for its classrooms and library over the year.

Such programs rely heavily on sponsorship and it has been the generosity of members of St Bernards who will ensure it continues during Term : 2. It is also pleasing the Club’s coach, Chris Tankard, through his work at Plarre Foods has ensured Term 4, 2013 will be fully sponsored. The company will further support the school by fully sponsoring the program in 2014.

Sponsorship for 12 students is a little over $300 per term. It highlights how a small amount of sponsorship can provide for students who genuinely appreciate such support.
