Bernard's Boys Dominate in NZ

James Bennie and Daniel Riley have both performed very well in the two games they played for the VAFA U18 representative team in New Zealand.

In game 1, Daniel Riley was voted best VAFA player by the opposition NZ coaching staff and second best payer by the VAFA coaching staff, while James Bennie was included in the team's best players.

In game 2, James Bennie was voted best VAFA player by the VAFA coaching staff, and both James and Daniel were again included in the best players for the game.

The VAFA U18 team won both games convincingly, and the VAFA web site made the following comment regarding the VAFA team performances:

"This has been great promotion of football in New Zealand and the New Zealanders are very grateful to our boys for going over there and assisting in their development. The coach of NZ, Justin Davies, said it was like having 24 assistant coaches for their team...".

The St. Bernard's Diamond Dogs coterie group kindly assisted both Daniel and James with the cost of making the trip to New Zealand. We know it will have been a great experience for both boys, and are ecstatic that both Daniel and James performed so incredibly well in both games, representing the club and the VAFA to the best of their ability.

Both James and Daniel were members of the U19 section 2 Premiership team of 2011, and Daniel also was a member of the senior team that was narrowly defeated in the Premier B grand final 6 days after the U19 premiership.

We look forward to an exciting year for both James and Daniel in 2012, either as members of a strong St. Bernard's U19 Premier Division squad, and we hope, regular members of the club's Premier division senior team.
