Ben Hogan Chalks Up Amazing 300 Games!

06 August 2013

There has never been a more popular player at ‘the Pit’ than the number 12 who led the Warriors out in his 300th game for the club against Old Xavs at Punt Road on Sunday.

A genuine legend of the club Ben Hogan has simply done it all.

A passionate Bernards boy who followed in his dad Peter’s footsteps to don the famous number 12 and along the way carve an on field and off field record second to none.

After winning two Under 19 Best & Fairest awards Hogi became a fixture in the senior side from the mid 90’s to mid 2000’s before going on to captain the Reserves for several years and now leads the Club 18 side.

Along the way Hogi of course was a big part of St Bernards golden period regularly playing A Grade finals capped off in 2002 where he was a member of the clubs all conquering A Grade Premiership side.

Hogi is only the third player in the clubs history to reach 300 games and the only player to notch 250 games and play in an A Grade Premiership team

Aside from his on field record Hogi has led the way off field. A clear leader on footy trips, always willing to help with social functions and despite the odd larrikin tendencies a great mentor for younger players around the club.

In recent years Hogi has led the Warriors charge assisting Miracle Mel with both coaching on match days and preseason fundraising .. who could forget the Hogi house BBQ and the ‘Harlem Shake’ hit on You Tube!

Hogi understands the club is about all of its players from seniors through to Clubbies and the ‘Unders’ boys. His passion for the club on all levels is what St Bernards is all about.

All at St Bernards salute one of the clubs greatest sons on his remarkable career and wish him well as he saddles up for the Warriors finals campaign next Sunday .. well done Hogi 12.
