Vale Ron Hancox

Very sad to report the passing early this morning, 3 February 2019, of one of St Bernard's greatest
players and clubmen, Ron Hancox.
Ron matriculated from the College in 1959 and then completed an engineering degree at the
University of Melbourne, where he played football for University Blues. After completion of his
studies he commenced playing with the old boys in 1965. Heritage listed player 53. Ron was a
magnificent player and defender for the club and played 156 senior games. During that journey he
won two best and fairest awards, 1968 and 1969 and was vice captain in 1969.
After retiring from football he continued as a committeeman for the club for many years, including
time as club secretary.
Ron was named best clubman in 1976. He was awarded life membership of the club.
Since then it was very rare for Ron not to attend a home game and he will certainly be missed by all
club stalwarts.
Ron was only diagnosed with cancer two weeks ago and his quick demise is mourned by all
associated with the Club.
He is survived by wife Carmel, daughter Anna and sons Damien and Andrew.
