Senior Coaching Appointments, season 2013

05 October 2012

Chris Tankard re-appointed for season 2013, a new conditioning coach appointed and other coaching roles largely filled for season 2013.

St. Bernard’s OCFC is pleased to announce the re-appointment of senior coach, Chris Tankard.  After a detailed review of Chris performance during season 2012, the unanimous recommendation of the football sub-committee was to nominate Chris for the role again in season 2013.  The football club committee accepted this recommendation and appointed Chris at a meeting of the full committee last night.

Chris will be joined on match day by Director of Football Development, Simon Atkins, who will fill the role of mids/forwards coach for the senior team.  Chris Davis has accepted the offer to act as assistant forwards coach for the seniors on game day, whilst still acting in his capacity as runner for the seniors.

The only remaining senior coaching role to be filled is that of defensive coach for the senior group.  The club is currently interviewing one candidate for this role, who will either be offered the position or else the position will be formally advertised.

Dean Laidley has agreed to assist the senior club again in his role as football consultant, commencing with the pre-season training program commencing on Monday November 19.

In an effort to ensure our young senior playing list has adequate development resources, we are also considering an additional senior assistant coaching resource to assist mainly at training with more targeted 1:1 and small group skills and game plan work.

Greg Bird, a former international U23 New Zealand Rugby Union player has also agreed to be the senior clubs tackling coach for season 2013.

Conditioning Coach Appointed

The football club has also appointed a full time conditioning coach for season 2013.  23 year old James Tamouridis, a former VFL listed player at Geelong and Bendigo, qualified level 2 sprint coach, former national junior decathlon champion, who is currently studying his exercise science degree at VU and working under the guidance of Adam Larcom, former head conditioning coach with Fremantle, has accepted the role of full time conditioning coach with the club.

James will begin planning with the senior coaching group for the 2012/13 pre-season in the coming weeks, and will be active on game days pre match, during games and post match to assist with the senior playing group’s conditioning and recovery requirements.

Reserves Coaching Group Finalised

The football club is also pleased to announce that Damien Sullivan will again coach the reserves team in season 2013.  Damien accepted the offer to coach again, and will be supported in season 2013 by Mick Stapleton, who will be defensive coach for the reserves team, and Peter Wood, who will be mids/forwards coach for the reserves team.

Geoff Cooper has agreed to assist the reserves coaching group on match day managing the white board for the reserves team.

Thirds Coaching Group

Frank Monaghan has again agreed to assist the club by coaching the thirds side in season 2013.  Football Director, Craig Connelly, has spoken with Frank and both have agreed the thirds team needs a dedicated assistant coach.  The football sub-committee will seek to fill this position in the coming weeks and months.

“Unders” Coaching Positions

Should neither of these candidates be suited to the role, the club will formally advertise the U19 Premier role along with the remaining two “unders” coaching roles, the U19 (North) and U18 teams.
