Bernards Power into Prelim Final

11 September 2017

Bernards dug deep to defeat Monash Blues and progress to Prelim

Its was a Big Sunday at Box Hill with both Reserves and Seniors in Action.

The Reserves put in a huge effort of hard work and bravery vs Carey, coming from behind with a Nick Burgin goal on the siren forcing the game into extra time. Ten minutes of extra time desperation from both teams, had the large crowd on the edge of their seats ! . Alas Carey edged ahead to win by 9pts. After the game outgoing Reserves Coach Craig Connelly rightly praised each and everyone of our players, assistant coach Bruno Dimasi, trainers and off field support on a tremendous year. The Reserves have become a powerful force within the club, and a key reason why the Seniors are surging through september. Craig will still remain heavily involved as List Manager, which as per the AFL, is one of the most vital roles in any club, and the club would like to thank him for an outstanding year at the ressies coaching helm.

The Seniors then roared into action with a 4 goal surge in the first quarter, however Monash had come to play and fought back to a 3 point lead at the long break. On a ground bigger than the MCG, coach Mark Riley urged his players on, in what turned into an old fashioned ding dong battle !!. The last quarter was VAFA finals football at its best, with first one team then the other surging forward. In a true whole team effort, the boys lifted with some high quality tranistion and goals, and ran out 13 point winners.

Post game Mark Riley praised the resilience and discipline of the whole team, which now carries us forward to a BIG prelim final vs Scotch on saturday at Trevor Barker Oval, Sandringham.

The club is very proud of how both teams represented us on super sunday. We encourage all supporters to be the "23rd man" this week by (1) getting to the club thrs nite , doors open 6pm, nibbles, drinks, club and team news + footy shows on TV. and

(2) join the "Bernards Army" as we march on Trevor Barker Oval and back the boys in their HUGE prelim vs traditional rivals Old Scotch.
